Fires[edit]

An editor removed the section on the fires today with the edit summary "Editorial source unreliable and potentially slanderous." Given that the allegation that the fires were intentionally set came from the major Austin newspaper - in a news story and attributed to the fire department - I don't see the editorial concerns mentioned. —C.Fred (talk) 21:33, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, C.Fred. You were seconds ahead of me. See below (I'll remove the extra header). Allreet (talk) 21:45, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The removal of the section on KOOP's fires on the grounds stated is, in my opinion, unjustified. Essentially, this strikes me as a suppression of information that is in the interest of readers to know about. I'm usually a suppressor of "juicy tidbits" and other un-encyclopedic entries, mostly for the reasons stated, that is, poor sources and when the material relates to living persons, because of the possibility of libel. That is not the case here. Sources on this story are as abundant as they get, so the facts seem clear. Meanwhile, no party other than the station is mentioned by name. I would suggest replacing one or two of the citations on the basis of notability (that is, other more notable sources are available), but the editor in question has to know that. Removing the material on this basis doesn't come close to qualifying, even under the most narrow reading of WP's guidelines. Given that, I'm reverting the removal. I've reverted the KOOP article to the previous version by C. Fred on the grounds that an editor (Aleccawthorne123) is trying to suppress a sourced story on specious grounds. I plan to add to the sources, but at this point every word in this section is accurate. I also plan to notify Aleccawthorne123 and respectfully request that no further changes be made to this section to avoid a 3-revert WP:EDIT WAR. By the way, the story as it stands is supported in reports by the Austin Chronicle, News 8, WVUE-TV, MSNBC and FoxNews (both Associated Press stories), Austin Business Journal and, among other sources, Current national public broadcast magazine. Looking at your diff, it was pretty clear that the news sources (Statesman and News 8) were two of the things he'd removed. I agree with restoring them. I'm not sure what exactly Aleccawthorne123's motives are or who he is—as opposed to Koopfm917 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who blanked the page today, who I blocked as a suspected sockpuppet of Joeyv1000 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). In that case, I felt the link was pretty clear. —C.Fred (talk) 01:05, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
