How do you add sources? I wrote everything from memory, but this page http://www.kcumb.edu/visitors/timeline.asp verifies what I wrote.

There are a lot of ways to do it, if it's an internet source the easiest way is to put the address of the source inside single brackets at the end of the passage that it's a citation for, like this [1]. Wikipedia:Citing sources explains this.--P4k 05:34, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Info Box changes and requests 2020[edit]

I am a contractor working for Kansas City University (formerly Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences) and would like to request changes to the page to reflect current information and changes.

Thanks. The first document doesn't support the assertion that there has been a name change as it explicitly refers to the institution as Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in multiple places, including the author's biography and acknowledgements. The second document is not a very strong source as it's likely written by the institution.
Right now, it does not appear to me that the institution has actually changed its name but has only adopted a shorthand for marketing purposes. It's not clear if that shorthand has been taken up widely outside of the institution. If these two inferences are correct then we should keep the article at its present title. @ElKevbo: I do see what you're saying, and I can ask them to provide additional information, but the intention is to move forward as only Kansas City University. The rebrand was done in 2 stages, starting with the visual, and as of 2020, they will be dropping the "of Medicine and Biosciences" permanently, as the university has expanded in many directions, including dentistry and psychology. I think I understand where the institution is at in this process. I encourage you to review WP:COMMONNAME as that will explain how we make decisions about the titles of articles. In my experience, it's common for there to be a lag between when an organization makes a name change, whether it's official or just for marketing purposes, and the change of a title in Wikipedia. That lag is usually caused by a broader lag in the media and other venues as they slowly adopt to the change. We follow the lead of the reliable sources that are available so we have to wait for them to make the change first. ElKevbo (talk) 21:34, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Name change - the fact that the university has taken out a trademark on a name is not a sufficient reference to support the claim that the university's name has officially changed. People and organizations may choose to secure trademarks on names other than their official business name (or university name). In addition, wikipedia does not necessary change article subjects to reflect the official name of that subject, but rather the name by which that subject is most commonly known. What we'd need is a news article or similar third party source that demonstrates that KCU is the name by which the university is most commonly known. While the patent office patents is independent, I don't it's sufficient to justify the suggested change. See the wikipedia policy WP:COMMONNAME for more information.
Endowment of $20,637,562 - needs a reference
Current deans - needs an independent reference. Also what are they deans of? Based on her degree (DMD), I imagine Linda Niessen is dean of the dental school, and D’Agostino is probably dean of the D.O. school. Is that correct? Would need a reference.

  • Could we just remove the endowment? They had to dig for the info, and they said it's information that they tend not to make public, so it will be very difficult to confirm - now or in the future. The previous citation was from a court document referencing 1995.
  • Regarding the additional changes in the other thread below, how do those get on someone's radar? Does that happen when these are closed out? I actually have a few more additions, would it be wise to add them to that section since nobody is working on it?
  • I need to have someone from KCU upload their new logo from a Wikipedia account created with a KCU email, correct?

@EJParnell:I have removed the endowment; I agree that is outdated information. I also added the dental school dean (Niesson) and removed D'Agostino since he's leaving for Texas Tech. I changed the name to "Kansas City University." Changing the name of the article is possible; however, opinions may differ on how exactly to handle the naming, since there is an existing article entitled "Kansas City University," which is about a defunct school. I will propose a solution and work on generating consensus. Since most readers looking for information on KCU will likely be interested in this article, I think it makes sense to have this article be "Kansas City University," and change the other article to "Kansas City University (defunct)" or something similar, with a disambiguation template at the top.
If you are requesting additional changes, I would create a new thread.

They have press information on their website including approved stock photos for editorial content, which includes photos of campus buildings. I propose removing the entire 5th paragraph about Karen Pletz, and creating a stand-alone for Ms. Pletz.

6th paragraph (2014):

The CMEI building is now open, and the article should be changed to reflect that. Suggestions: Please change "which has since then included" to "which has since then resulted in" "facility will house..." to "facility houses.." Change "mimicing" to "which simulates" Last sentence: The CMEI opened its doors in 2020.

Do we need a source for the building opening? There was no official ribbon cutting or anything, I think due to the campus being closed for COVID. But the building is, indeed open.

2016 paragraph: Change 3rd sentence to "The university is currently expanding the Joplin Campus to also house a College of Dental Medicine which is scheduled to welcome its first class in 2022.

Move the entire paragraph starting with "The College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of three..." to the last paragraph of the entire section. (i.e., after, "...be accepted by their junior year."

The next 2 paragraphs are very specific and outdated. I propose deleting both paragraphs "The curriculum at KCU's College of Osteopathic Medicine..." through "...financially underserved populations in Kansas City, MO."

With this simplified explanation: "The curriculum at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine consists of four years of structured training leading to the doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree. Active learning is incorporated, including early clinical exposure through Score 1 for Health, standardized patient encounters and human patient simulation. Suggested: expand this paragraph to be more evergreen and provide a little more detail. Suggested text: The College of Biosciences was established in 2005 and offers a Master of Science of Biomedical Sciences which prepares students to pursue doctoral programs in healthcare fields, and covers anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology and epidemiology, cell biology, embryology, genetics, histology, physiology and molecular biology. Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program Add "PsyD" to include the degree earned through the program. After "American Psychologocal Association" add new sentence: The program integrates empirical evidence and practice through coursework and clinical training.

Change "will offer" to "offers."

Suggested to remove last sentence "This program will work..."

College of Dental Medicine The KCU College of Dental Medicine is projected to open in 2022 at the Farber-McIntire Campus in Joplin, Missouri.

Note: I'm not really sure how to indicate a source for that. The university campus has increased in size due to purchasing dilapidated structures nearby and turning them into green space. However, the total acreage is not documented, but it can be confirmed with Google Maps.

The Administrative Building" should be "The Administration building." The Annex does not have 2200 lecture seats. That should be removed. Need to add the Academic Center after the Annex Building: "The Academic Center houses two lecture halls with a combined seating capacity of more than 600."

Dybedal is no longer used for clinical research. Need to delete the sentence beginning with "Opened in 2004...":

Strickland no longer has "a classroom for biomedical sciences students." It now also has faculty offices and conference rooms.

Student Activities Center no longer has "Common Grounds Cafe."

Add subtitle before "In June 2018" Center for Medical Education Innovation (CMEI) Add this as a second sentence in the paragraph: "The building opened in Fall 2020, providing medical students simulated clinical experiences using virtual reality and augmented reality technologies. CMEI also houses ICU simulation sites, medical robots, 22 standardized patient rooms, and a 70-bay lab for physical diagnosis, and osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM).

I've replaced the logo in this article. Incidentally, it was not uploaded to Commons but was uploaded locally to en.wikipedia. Specifically, it's at File:Logo Kansas City University, a medical school in Kansas City, Missouri.png. That's a good thing because Commons does not allow copyrighted material, only free material, but en.wikipedia allows copyrighted material if it's used with a valid fair use rationale.
I don't think anyone will object to you updating URLs in this article to ensure they continue working as long as they're pointing to the same or an equivalent source as originally intended. ElKevbo (talk) 02:05, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– The subject of this article has changed its name from "Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences" to "Kansas City University." However, the article name "Kansas City University" is used to describe a defunct university, which has been out of operation since 1933, which has about 1/10th the article traffic compared with the active university. I recommend changing the active university's article name to "Kansas City University" and the defunct university's article to "Kansas City University (defunct)" or "Kansas City University (Methodist)" (WP:QUALIFIER). The College of Biosciences was established in 2005 and offers a Master of Science of Biomedical Sciences which prepares students to pursue doctoral programs in healthcare fields, and covers anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology and epidemiology, cell biology, embryology, genetics, histology, physiology and molecular biology. A two-year research track prepares students for careers such as research scientists.

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program

  • After "American Psychologocal Association" add new sentence: The program integrates empirical evidence and practice through coursework and clinical training.

Score 1 for Health

  • Move as sub-head to “Outreach.”
  • Remove “non-profit” - it is not one. I don’t know what kind of source is needed to verify that.
  • Add “and in the Joplin, MO community” to where Score 1 operates.
  • Remove number of children who are screened. It’s inaccurate and prone to variation.

Add 2 more sub-heads under “Outreach”: Medical Missions KCU faculty and students participate in international mission trips to countries including Guatemala, Kenya and the Dominican Republic. Many of these trips are conducted in conjunction with DOCARE International, an osteopathic medical outreach organization dedicated to providing much-needed health care to indigent and isolated people in remote areas around the world. Medical missions provide students practical, hands-on experience in rural settings. Student Clubs and Organizations Many clubs and Organizations are available to KCU students to encourage networking and interest-based experiences. All student clubs must complete at least one community service project each year. (Note: This was under "Students" and the info there was very old. Questions about Pletz entries[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ElKevbo I've requested input on Karen Pletz several times, but have not had any sort of response. My hope was simply to provide consistent information, listing all presidents and their contributions/associated news strikes me as inconsistent with other higher ed pages.

Here are my thoughts:

  • No other presidents or news stories of that type are listed on this page, including on many other higher education Wikipedia pages.
  • I have suggested either creating a stand-alone page for Pletz and moving the info there, perhaps with a link from the KCU page if deemed necessary, and/or simply removing it.
  • I see you consider the embezzlement relevant to the university, but in what way is the outcome (suicide) relevant to the university?
  • I have perused a number of other higher ed pages, I'm not finding similar information, which is how I arrived at the assumption that this information does not belong.
  • Is her proposal of a dual degree program relevant at this time?
