Update to Sept. 2008 paparazzi scuffle case

{{editprotected}} West's trial for his September 2008 fight with the paparazzi will be held on October 23, reported MTV News on Thursday. I just found out about it today. Details about the case should be in the Legal troubles section. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 23:31, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm leaving the editprotected template for now, but Andrew, do you mind writing the addition so I can just cut and paste it? tedder (talk) 00:58, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, seems like there would be an easier solution here. Congratulations for scaring off the willing contributors. I know I can't wait to see how this article is coming along every time I check back... ---Debollweevil (talk) 02:10, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Debollweevil, if you feel that strongly about it there is always requests for unprotection. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 10:34, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Nah, I'm taking a break from Wikipedia for now. Anyways, the people interested in this article have certainly been driven off by now. Would you keep checking on an article that has been fully locked for some time now? Just look at the talk page to see how the people's interest in this page plummeted suddenly at a certain point... ---Debollweevil (talk) 15:59, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Semi protection

Just a note to point that I have lifted the full protection. The article is now semi-protected for a few months. We'll see how it goes... -- Luk talk 09:57, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Seems reasonable. I and other admins are watching this article (FWIW). --Kanonkas :  Talk  10:13, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Done, I warned the user. Sorry about that :/ -- Luk talk 16:30, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Why is there no mention of the South Park episode that created this. There should be at least some mention of it somewhere as a parody that created a large series of spamming of this page to get it locked down. OttoBerchtesgaden talk 17:16, 19 November 2009 (EST)

Gay fish episode can be added as appearance in popular culture or under criticism, controversy something. His big big ego and heavy use of Auto Tune was spoofed really good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.78.128.225 (talk) 08:27, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Luk is a wikipedian dickrider, anyways I agree that it should be added in the pop culture section Coolman1250 (talk) 21:03, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Good Grief (death rumor)

Is this death rumor notable enough to get a mention? I went to twitter, and after about thirty seconds it said there was 111 more tweets about it since I searched for it. Zazaban (talk) 08:09, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I'd say that the twitter rumour doesn't have any place here. A lot of the twitter users are just inclding the term to plug their own products/feeds. In an case, the rumour is a hoax. If it were to achieve sustained high level media coverage it may warrant some sort of mention. It is curious to see the response of some twitterers to the hoax though Darigan (talk) 09:30, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I'd like to report that I've found some /b/tard (4chan) slogans in some of the tweets. Do you suppose they're behind this? Zazaban (talk) 09:38, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

This is all Kanye's doing. Just an elaborate publicity stunt to boost record sales. Perhaps we need a section for "Self-Generated Controversies." 05:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.131.145.198 (talk)

Yup confirmation about 4 Chans involvement: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/21/kanye_west_scareware/ & http://www.darkreading.com/blog/archives/2009/10/kanye_west_car.html# - Back to the initial comment, probobly shouldn't include a reference to the rumours here, but does anybody fancy including this as an example of what 4 Chan members do on the 4 Chan entry? Darigan (talk) 12:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Yep, I knew it as soon as I noticed that so many tweets were saying 'goodnight sweet prince'. Zazaban (talk) 20:21, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
And there probably should be a section on the 4chan article about the death hoaxes, they've been doing a lot of those lately. Gerard Way got it done to him a few months back. Zazaban (talk) 20:24, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
I removed what was added to the 4chan article because it truly can't be sourced by these "journalists". You are weird. Do not follow in the footsteps of Kanye West. T-Swizzle for LIFE!! The rumour itself reportedly originated on notorious image board 4chan isn't solid in itself. Either way, 4chan always has fake death hoaxes, 90% of which fall through the cracks and are purged. There' no reason that any one of them stick out above the rest. The source of this hoax was likely a collaboration of people using internet rumor-spreading sites, with Twitter being a very easy way to do so. Just like the Jeff Goldblum hoax... it was some fake reporting website that people didn't read the fine print on.
Either way, this shouldn't be pinned on 4chan specifically, but I believe mention of very prominent hoaxes (that go so far as to be reported or shown in the media, like the Goldblum one was) should be added to the "victim's" article. Gpia7r (talk) 20:54, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

We need to put it on the page so people know that he is really alive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.9.98 (talk) 23:54, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

No we don't. Anyone with half a brain knows it was a hoax. It's not true, let it go. It's not relevant so it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. SE KinG. User page. Talk. 00:22, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Actually, most people under 20 are so susceptible to mass panic of this nature that they probably are going to need a disclaimer for a week. Zazaban (talk) 04:34, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, that was a highly unnecessary comment, and a little uncivil. Don't forget that you have editors like me that are under 20 and not necessarily susceptible to panic. Anyone, of any age, can be susceptible to a media scare. Remember the Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd scares? —Mr. E. Sánchez (that's me!)What I Do / What I Say 06:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Are we gonna put this up on the main article or not?Syler.mi4 (talk) 10:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

I think we're probobly best not mentioning it, doesn't really have a place in an encyclopedic article. Interesting how quickly social media like twitter can propogate a rumour though Darigan (talk) 10:43, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

I entirely agree. -- Luk talk 15:09, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Kanye's associated acts?

I think it would be good to put Common under Kanye's associated acts. Kanye produces a LOT for Common these days. Mos Def should be given a thought or two also...(71.99.1.170 (talk) 00:28, 27 October 2009 (UTC))

Just to add, considering the number of artist Kanye West has worked with, the pitiful number in the actual section should be expanded greatly. Come on, West has worked with dozens of popular artists, they should be shown also. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.56.131.78 (talk) 23:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Kanye is back in the studio so it's safe to assume that there will be a new album sometime around september to december period. The basic idea is that he doesn't want to get stale and wants his work to not only "represent whats happening now" but also be the truth and sincerity through written word when the "powers to be rewrite history".

You didn't propose an edit, but regardless - blogs are not considered reliable sources, especially when they are very closely associated with the subject. ~ Amory (utc) 04:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion: Add name of Swift's video

In the Controversies section, after "her award for Best Female Video" add "for You Belong with Me". That section contains a lot of details, including (twice) the name of Beyoncé's video, so it makes sense to include the name of Swift's video. Kanye West and Korean band JYJ

The Korean group JYJ was scheduled to release their English-language global debut album, The Beginning, on October 12, led by the Kanye West produced single "Ayyy Girl".JYJ (JaeJoong, Yoochun, JunSu) flu to the United States to begin recording for their new album, which was released through a “well-known” music company in the States but with a focus on targeting Asian countries.Jae Chong, who has worked with artists such as BoA, Vaness Wu, and Uhm JungHwa has announced he is currently writing songs for JYJ. Chong describes the upcoming album as a “huge collaboration project featuring the biggest A listers in the US.it’s a huge collaboration project featuring the 3 guys from DBSK and the biggest A listers in the US…as of now…being Kanye West and Timbaland…To make the long story short…we’re working on the album as I type…and will fly to Hawaii to record at Kanye’s house…and then possibly go to LA or Miami to record with Timbaland…This is by far THE biggest budget project EVER in Asia" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jyjlove (talkcontribs) 13:00, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

South Park episode

How can this Wikipedia article be considered authoritative on the man, if it doesn't even mention in passing the main thing he's known for outside the US: that South Park parody? 203.59.80.62 (talk) 03:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I disagree. Kanye Is A well known musical artist outside of the US. And to say that the only thing he is known for is a scathing Parody.... is disrespectful to both the artist and his fans. But nonetheless, i still think the South Park episode is signifigant, to this page. Maybe it should be put under Controversies section?. --121.214.134.45 (talk) 05:26, 29 November 2011 (UTC) Lachie Bennett - Lewis

Please edit second paragraph

As it is now, the last line of paragraph 2 reads: As of May 2011, West currently has 4 songs above the 3 million mark with "Gold Digger" selling 3,086,000, "Stronger" selling 4,363,000, "Heartless" selling 3,742,000 and "E.T." selling 3,157,000 making him the top selling male digital artist of all time.[8][9]

It SHOULD end with "making him the top selling male digital artist of all time... OF ALL TIME.[8][9]" in reference to that hilarious business with taylor swift and beyonce. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.211.215 (talk) 22:31, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Grammer Mistake on his mother's paragraph

At the end it says, "She was 57 year old," This should read "She was 57 years old"

Done This has been fixed, yet it says now that she was 58 years old instead of 57 --Bobjonespie (talk) 02:23, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Small edit request

Kanye is mentioned on the alternative hip-hop page. Maybe someone can add it to genre, or remove Kanye from the alternative hip-hop page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bloodmaybe7 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

When it comes to artist articles, Template:Infobox musical artist#Genre says "Aim for generality (e.g. [[Hip hop music|Hip hop]] rather than [[East Coast hip hop]])." Dan56 (talk) 15:54, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Lead is way too long

There's no point in bombarding the reader with Kayne West's accolades right at the beginning of the article. Those are usually handled in an "Awards and Recognition" section. As it stands now, the lead is POV-pushing. 98.217.75.153 (talk) 15:31, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Agreed all the awards and accolades should be removed from the lead, anyone looking for that will just go to that section. P0PP4B34R732 (talk) 02:46, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

The 'aliases' refers to the alternate stage names the artist has used. Nicknames are not added into the list. --Esanchez(Talk 2 me or Sign here) 23:30, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Genres

I Think The Following Genres Should Be Listed In Kanye's Genre Section: Hip hop, Alternative Hip Hop, alternative rock, neo-psychedelia.... or any of the genres mentioned in the opening statements of his wiki page.--121.214.134.45 (talk) 05:20, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Lachie Bennett - Lewis

Not done: If the image isn't uploaded under a CC-BY-SA (or similar) license then it can't be uploaded so unless someone uploads a free-to-use image than the current image will have to stay as it is. –Davey2010Talk 16:05, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

psychiatric emergency Nov 2016

No mention of his dr calling 911 and paramedics taking him to hospital due to 'psychosis'? maybe I missed it? Beaglemix (talk) 17:41, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Beaglemix: Under Kanye West#2016–present: ''The Life of Pablo'' and ''Turbo Grafx 16'', there's this: "He was later admitted for psychiatric observation at UCLA Medical Center." There's already a citation for your suggested change that follows that sentence. If you want to put in the additional information, please be bold! Peaceray (talk) 18:05, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Do we get to finally call him Kanye "Worst" now that he's been locked up in the psych ward for a week? He destroyed Taylor Swift's beautiful moment on stage, among instigating many other rude, attention-seeking situations, including numerous other attacks on artists as award shows claiming that Beyonce should've won. Since he's comparing himself to Pablo Picasso for his "The Life of Pablo" album, why doesn't he just hack off his ear and proclaim he's the new Vincent van Gogh too? With all the "purple drank" this "artist" is presumed to be drinking, self-mutilation should be no problem. "What the [F-word] is he on?" said Snoop Dogg. The end outcome of all great or "genius" artistic expression must be self-mutilation. There is no other choice. See Marilyn Manson.

2020 election

"He goes around saying 'Trump is my all-time hero,'" the Republican candidate said of West. "He says it to everybody. So, Kanye West, I love him."
Trump added that he might rescind his admiration for West if the 21-time Grammy winner follows through on his presidential ambitions.
"Now, maybe in a few years I will have to run against him, I don't know. So I'll take that back," he said.

Part of a video/NBC article of Trump talking about Kanye.[5] He's liked him since at least September 2015. This could be used as a reference in the future. Emily Goldstein (talk) 00:02, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Can we remove the part about Kanye's Concerts being covered by his insurance?

Think about this for a second. Imagine 100 years from now, someone reads this Wikipedia article. Do you really think anybody's going to care that an insurance policy covered the cancellation of 21 concerts? How in any way does that kind of information have any long standing relevance? You wouldn't say, "Kanye West broke his arm and luckily his insurance covered it". It's non pertinent information. It simply doesn't matter in a Wikipedia article. This is basically gossip that got confirmed and now it's suddenly extremely important information worthy of being posted on Wikipedia? I can't imagine why somebody felt the need to post that. Yes, it's probably very reassuring that 21 concerts got covered, but ask yourself, is it really necessary to put in a Wikipedia article? The answer is no, it's not. It's garbage information and should removed for the sake of toning down the irrelevant, unimportant BS. Bunch of kids must be keeping this Wikipedia page up to date.

Hiding of information in Mental illness section.

I hid this:

In April 2015, Malik Yusef, a man who worked closely with Kanye West, reported, "He doesn't take his medication because he chooses not to, and I applaud him for that," and when asked what medication he was referring to he replied "Whatever they prescribe you for like bipolar or schizophrenia or whatever they diagnosed him as."

This is contentious information that is unsourced. As per WP:BLP, "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." Once a reliable source is added to this information, feel free to un-hide it.  {MordeKyle  21:28, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
