Untitled[edit]

This article is part of building out the BlueOregon article (which is also under speedy deletion, and was deleted before I could put up the tag for "hold on" review). BlueOregon is an often cited political news blog, used in numerous articles on Oregon politics and elected officials. This is the reason I created the pages, so that it can be the initial page used in numerous citation tags on Oregon elected official and candidate articles. For example, The Oregonian, Oregon's largest newspaper, often mentions BlueOregon in articles about local and Oregon politics such as here, here and here. It is also, as noted above, often a reliable and cited source for numerous Oregon centric political elected officials and candidates.

Removed some updates[edit]

There is some good stuff below, but a number of things that aren't compatible with WP content guidelines: citations to social networking sites, characterizations of Chisholm's response to the WW article, etc. I'm pasting it below in case anybody wants to cull through for the good stuff. The Heisman Trophy section certainly merits inclusion, for instance; the Oregonian did a detailed writeup of that in 2004, as well. Notability issue[edit]

User:Arbor8 has flagged this page for notability issues. I'm going to work on this, as Chisholm is certainly notable, but the article doesn't capture that. May take a few revisions. PhilHancock (talk) 06:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still not sold on the notability of a political consultant with a sports blog, but you certainly improved the article quite a bit, so I'll leave well enough alone Arbor8 (talk) 19:53, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In case this comes up again: the notability mainly derives from his being the most active founder of BlueOregon, which is easily the most notable political blog in the state of Oregon; as a highly visible political consultant, he is frequently interviewed by print journalists, talk radio, etc. Haven't read the article in a while, don't know how well this is reflected; but the notability is there. -Pete (talk) 14:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

That photo is blurry and terrible. Agree it's a terrible photo that doesn't show the subject well at all, and I'd actually think no photo is better than that one--but in any case, the photo you've linked to above doesn't have a Creative Commons license that would let it be used on Wikipedia. Specifically, that photo has the non-commercial and non-derivative tags (CC-BY-NC-ND). Wikipedia requires CC-BY, CC-SA, or CC-BY-SA. It's all pretty confusing and I always have to read up on it every time I want to post a photo myself. See here. --Esprqii (talk) 21:59, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey everyone, Kari here. I understand that the question of notability has come up again. It's obviously hard for me to be objective, but for notability I guess I'd point to the college football world - where I'm well-known and often-cited as an expert on the Heisman Trophy. On the digital political consulting side, I was an early innovator, but lots of good, smart folks have jumped head-first into the field. As for BlueOregon, it may just be a political blog, it's also considered the gold standard for state-level political commentary. I'll let others draw conclusions as to notability, but here's some links to just a few stories that cite my contributions. (Every football season, there are hundreds, but most news outlets - tragically - wipe out their archives after a few months.)

Updating bio[edit]

To the IP editor(s) who have recently been trying to update this page and Blue Oregon, I see there is some justification in the updates, since Blue Oregon is not as active as it once was, and the Stiff Arm Trophy was discontinued (though to me, the reasoning for that on the web site suggests more, not less, notability). However, the recent edits appear to come from the assumption that current relevance is the primary consideration at Wikipedia. That's not so. If something was significant, it's our role to express that it was significant -- not to editorialize and emphasize that it is not significant today. Some updates are surely in order, but they need to be more nuanced than the recent efforts. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 06:43, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
