I'm not sure about the Methodenstreit explanation. I had thought that his earlier work, about Burgundy (?), had used economic history in such a way as to put Lamprecht on the 'Austrian' side of the larger Methodenstreit. The controversy over Deutsche Geschichte had plenty to do with his 'mentalities' approach.

Max Weber was another with bad things to say.

Karl Gotthard LamprechtKarl Lamprecht – This move should not be controversial. He is universally known as Karl Lamprecht, as per his published biographies Karl Lamprecht: A German Academic Life (1856-1915) or Karl Lamprecht: Einsichten in ein Historikerleben and the other language wikis. His middle name is irrelevant. —Brigade Piron (talk) 16:43, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
