St. Charles's Church, ViennaKarlskirche – This church is most commonly known as "Karlskirche" in English-language sources. For example: Frommers, Fodors, Sacred Destinations, Great Buildings, Lonely Planet, About Vienna, The Vienna Review], etc. WP:TITLES: "If a word or phrase (originally taken from some other language) is commonly used by English language sources, it can be considered to be an English language word." Also, the name "Karlskirche" is specifically associated with this church in Vienna, and does not require disambiguation. Bede735 (talk) 17:06, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom on both points. There is (now) a dab page at St. Charles' Church. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:17, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. A clear case of WP:USEENGLISH taken to stupid extremes (which is sadly all too common). It's never referred to as St Charles's Church. Should never have been moved in the first place (and if I'd spotted it I'd have moved it straight back again). -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:47, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

St. Charles Church, ViennaKarlskirche – Moved without discussion (having already been moved after an RM discussion: see above) and moved back again when I reverted it, with continual citing of WP:UE. This church is overwhelmingly referred to as the Karlskirche in reliable English-language sources. Just a selection: Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet, Yale Library, Great Buildings, Rough Guide, Fodors. It is true that Austrian sources in English often refer to it as St Charles Church, but this is common: it appears that non-native-English-speakers often do not realise that we poor natives do have the capacity to understand foreign names without translation. Native English-language sources, however, including top guidebooks, usually use the German name. WP:UE is, as is unfortunately common, here being cited without really understanding what it actually says: it does not mean we must translate every foreign name into English. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:25, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
