I'm no expert at Japanese, but I believe that gasa is a form of the word kasa when used in compound words: like jingasa = jin (iron) + kasa (hat). Aidan Blackthorn (talk) 00:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

jingasa[edit]

samurais used kabuto, not jingasa. on a battle field ashigaru could be easiliy recognised by using jingasa instead of kabuto (Idot (talk) 05:47, 18 April 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Samurai certainly wore jingasa, bajo jingasa were used by mounted samurai, only samurai rode horses, fancy jingasa were samurai jingasa, ashigaru used plain jingasa, also in some time periods ashigaru were considered to be low ranking samurai. Also ashigaru did not own their armor and equipment, it was owned by the samurai lord and loaned to ashigaru, therefore technically all ashigaru armor and equipment was samurai armor and equipment. Look here Bajo jingasa or Uchidasi jingasa these look like plain ashigaru jingasa?

Yes, look for fancy lacquer designs, gold lacquer, hammered out designs (uchidashi), etc, samurai would wear this type, also the bayo jingasa type.Samuraiantiqueworld (talk) 04:59, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
