Other Contributions to Science[edit]

Hi fellow editors,

I would like to add a section for Kathryn Moore's other contributions to science (titled Other contributions to science). This new section would talk about Dr. Moore's participation in the National Academy of Sciences and American Heart associations. It would additionally talk about conferences she spoke at, editorial positions at a multitude of journals, and review panel/advisory board positions. This section may also include details on how her discoveries affected the field of science, though I'm not sure about that one yet. What do you guys think?

And one more thing - someone put in Dr. Moore's T.W. Cameron Award for Excellence in Parasitology as needing a citation. I couldn't find anything online, but I might be able to email her asking for a picture of the physical award. If I am successful in this, could I just upload and cite the image?

Hi Bearcan,

I got drawn to this wiki page because I started reading some papers her lab published and wanted more people to learn of her work. I like the idea of the other contributions to science section. I particularly am interested in the role of noncoding RNAs in regulating inflammation so perhaps we can find and add more information about what her lab is working on now with regards to noncoding RNAs. Since I am reading a few papers that she and her lab published, what do you think about adding a "selected publications" or just a "publications" section? I think that would be a good section to highlight some of Dr. Moore's more notable contributions to science.

Bearcan, I think some of the content of the kind you have suggested could be included, but it would depend on reliable, independent secondary sources being provided, as well as the content being written neutrally. However, I do not think "Other contributions to science" is itself a neutral heading, and things you have mentioned would fit easily within a broader "Career" section. Editing roles in journals is a fairy standard inclusion for academic bios, as is membership of national societies. However, listing conferences spoken at and review panel positions are much more resume like inclusions which do not belong. A "selected publications" section as suggested by Turqoiseturtles is fine, but should be careful to list the most significant and well cited publications, and not be a resume-like list of everything she has ever published. Thanks for the pointers. Unfortunately, pretty much everything I've done on the page has been deleted recently, and I'm in the process of building it back up with 100% secondary sources. But I'm slightly confused, and Drmies told me that primary sources are unacceptable. I was previously under the impression that one could cite a scientists own information for basic things, such as where they were educated, etc. And apparently you are also not allowed to cite anything from a previous employer, university, etc. Are all of these things true, or did I misinterpret Drmies' statement?

Once I have figured out how to proceed, I will definitely work on these suggestions if possible. I think the easiest way to find her most cited articles would be to take the top ones from Google Scholar, as they list publication numbers. Bearcan (talk) 20:47, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Keith,

First and foremost, thank you for fixing those issues with the citations. I noticed them, but I'm not very good at the wikitext side of things.

I also noticed that you added a "Multiple Issues" tag. Thank you for the heads up; could you point them out for me so that I could get in the process of fixing them? I have been editing this page for a little while now and I would like continuously improve it. By the way, I looked through the link-finding tool and none of them matched up to Dr. Moore.

@Bearcan:, hello, AWB automatically added the tag as there is more than one issue tag at the top of the article. It already had a {{BLP sources}} tag, an {{Orphan}} tag was added as no other article links to this page. (Special:WhatLinksHere/Kathryn_Moore) shows you the current links to this page, you can find this under the toolbox entry "What links here".
