Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because... --SpeakFree (talk) 21:45, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well-known figure in the rap scene in the Netherlands. Controversial figure who has been often mentioned in the Dutch media. SpeakFree (talk) 21:45, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • There's no evidence of that in the article, which is unsourced. WP:NMG states that "an article on an artist or band that does not indicate that the subject of the article is important or significant can be speedily deleted", which it doesn't. Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#A7 says that the claim of importance must be credible. Being violent is not a credible assertion of importance. andy (talk) 21:52, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Still no grounds for speedily deletion. Added one link showing notability. I don't like the guy but he has been oft-mentioned in the Dutch press plus he has an album which reached No. 7 in the Dutch album Top 100 so he probably is notable. SpeakFree (talk) 21:57, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I reluctantly agree about the speedying, but I still don't think he's notable. I'm prodding it to give someone a few days to sort it out. andy (talk) 22:15, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per WP:MUSICBIO "Has had a single or album on any country's national music chart." Check. SpeakFree (talk) 22:29, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trug Ben[edit]

This is a tricky one. I edited the article to reflect the English translation of the title to read "I'm Back", as it previously said "Am Back", which is a little crunchy with English grammar. But that is neither accurate nor does it captivate the spirit of the title. Neither version does.

The Dutch word for back is "terug". A literal translation of the phrase "I am back" would be "ik ben terug". The title of the album has been intentionally misspelled and arranged as a sort of artifact of street/hip-hop/immigrant culture, omitting letters and words. The nearest way I can think to approach an accurate translation of the phrasing with stylized elements relative to the hip-hop scene would be something along the lines of " 'm b*ck " or "b4ck". Neither of these would work, however, because of the insertion of an asterisk (introducing non-existent symbols) or leetspeak (introducing non-existent numbers).

Does anyone have any input on this? I know I'm overthinking it but it seems a really hard nut to crack for such a small edit and I'd like to see something more spiritually accurate rest as the translation for the album title. Ore no unko desu ka? (talk) 10:20, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
