Ronald Wolfe[edit]

Can anyone start an article about Ronald Wolfe, who was the last man to be executed in USA for committing rape? (In 1964). Axxn (talk) 18:17, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I found a little info and a picture at a Missouri government site, but thats about it.

Copyright Violation[edit]

Much of this article borrows from Oyez.org's page on Kennedy v. Louisiana, and may be a possible copyright violation. Someone please consider rewriting the article. Buckaroo54 (talk) 20:24, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Living Constitution[edit]

I noticed an interesting item from Justice Kennedy's opinion: that "evolving standards of decency" have ruled capital punishment is unconstitutional for a crime other than murder. This would appear to be a very explicit example of the court's attitude towards the notion of a living constitution. Would it be fair to include that in this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lockwood Like (talkcontribs) 16:01, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, if a commentator makes that point. I'd be very surprised if someone--on either side of the issue--didn't frame it that way. Mackensen (talk) 16:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Holding[edit]

"It is unconstitutional to impose the death penalty for the crime of raping a child, when the victim does not die and death was not intended." is poorly phrased. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.77.4.20 (talk) 22:02, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that it is poorly phrased. What exactly is your concern? It is essentially a paraphrase of a quote from the actual decision. The direct quote is: "the Eighth Amendment bars Louisiana from imposing the death penalty for the rape of a child where the crime did not result, and was not intended to result, in the victim's death". I don't think that the paraphrase of this direct quote is poorly phrased. In fact, I think that it paraphrases the original quote rather well. (Joseph A. "under sentence of death for a non-capital crime"?[edit]

I suspect this was intended to mean for a crime other than murder. As it stands, it doesn't make much sense. If the sentence is death, then the crime is capital by definition. 24.5.193.228 (talk) 14:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it. PaulGS (talk) 05:45, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is the resolution from U.S. Senator for Louisiana David Vitter a significant reaction?[edit]

Should the mere introduction of a resolution by Senator David Vitter be included in this article when it does not appear to have been adopted? That was a year and a half ago, so it's probably just lost in the pages of legislative history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.91.17.138 (talk) 19:45, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aftermath Section - Dubious Tag[edit]

The section claims that upon reversal that a sentence of life without parole was a mandatory sentence under the applicable law at the time of the case and cites to a news article claiming such. However, I could find no primary source of applicable law which verifies that as an actual fact versus media bias, etc. I therefore recommend that all references to "mandatory sentence" in the main article be removed unless and until a credible primary source or non-media outlet source can be found to verify this as an actual fact in order to ensure the article is strictly compliant with Wikipedia policies such as WP:NPOV. 72.210.102.55 (talk) 16:31, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
