Overhaul[edit]

As per Chatham Main Line and SET talk pages Pickle 14:33, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Probable needs retitleign "East Kent Line" set SET talk page Pickle 14:33, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would advise against that to save confusion with the East Kent Railway. If in doubt call it "A to B via C Line", but saying that NSE used to call it the Kent Coast Line. Our Phellap 18:40, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but North Kent has the "other" Kent Coast - LOL!, I don't really know what the answer is! Pickle 16:09, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Been thinking about this after the recent renaming of x to South Eastern Main Line. If "The typical off-peak service from the station is one train per hour to Ramsgate and one train per hour to London Charing Cross via Dover Priory and Tonbridge" is true, as all the stations on the main section of this line state. Then surly this should be merged into South Eastern Main Line.... On the other hand the section from Dover to Deal was a joint LCDR and SER railway, while Deal to the junction with SER's Ashford to Ramsgate (via Canterbury West) line was built by SER IIRC. thoughts ??? Dover Area[edit]

Hawkesbury Street Jn was where the line headed towards Dover Marine (Dover Western Docks) station. However, after Hawkesbury Street Jn, there was a yard/siding area where shunting engines (Class 08/09) used to operate in order to shunt freight wagons on/off the train ferries to Europe (Boulogne/Calais/Dukirk/Ostend). This did NOT run through the Marine Station, and therefore, is correctly shown separately on the map (well it did, till someone changed it). I am saying this as someone who grew up in Canterbury, and who's daddy worked on the ferry's. I can picture Dover Marine in my head like it was yesterday. Sheepcot 23:18, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am thinking that there has been some confusion here. The PASSENGER train did go to Dover Marine. However, any railway traffic crossing the English Channel by means of the ferry, used to BYPASS the Marine station and go directly on to the ferry. This is why I had tried to show a distinction between the marine station and the connection to the ferry. The ferry "VORTIGERN", was specifically designed to take trains, and used to carry the Orient Express coaches across to Calais. I know this, because my father used to work on the ferries. Ahh enlightenment dawns upon me ;) - i did a lot of digging online to try and work out the order of Dover stations and completely forgot about that outcome Pickle 23:44, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram Modifications[edit]

I've put a B5 version of the diagram on this page. It needs further work, particularly the SECR loop (the connections and relative position of the "new" Ramsgate station need confirming) but I feel that moving it here will encourage others to improve it. Britmax 21:32, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a) good work
b) you can interchange BS, BS3 and BS5 to save code when your only showing 1, 3 or 5 things (repsectivly)
c) check out this page and this page at kentrail.co.uk for lcoations, etc (disused-stions and sub birt might also help).
d) thus what you've got here looks a bit odd and maybe wrong, although it would be very hard to represent the current layout over the previous layout. i'll get back later with my own inovative atempt in a day or two unless you want to play first with the above data form the kentrail site.
good luck Pickle 00:00, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hows that now ? Pickle 00:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Coming on well - I've been busy with SDJR but will look at your suggestions. Don't let me stop you playing with it - that's what I put it there for! Britmax 23:18, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, i think i'm at the limit of all the fiddleing i can think of for now. thanks for doing this, i made many of these in the early days of the BS template when we only had 3 columns! Pickle 00:39, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:South Western Main Line which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 01:29, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
