Photo[edit]

The current page photo of Collins is terrible. Can't someone find a publicly available photo that doesn't make him look like he's been pithed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joelfurr (talkcontribs) 18:31, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

Can someone find a picture of Kerry Collins as a Raider? 06:01, 10 September 2005 (UTC)

-seriously, a better picture without the dood eating a sandwich would be good.

Anybody know more about the 1997 incident with Muhammad? I had never heard that story before, and I follow football closely. Maybe a link?

I found a decent biography article from the San Francisco Chronicle, Collins appreciates second chances. Doesn't have much more info. However, it states that Collins was drunk on the last night of training camp and trying to make some sort of joke by calling Muhammad, as the article says, a "n--a". It also states that Collins, inadvertently slurred Hispanic offensive lineman Norberto Davidds-Garrido, which resulted in Collins getting punched. The current version of this article seems to imply that Collins was punched just for calling Muhammad a nigger, but the SF Chronicle's article leads me to believe that the Hispanic slur is what caused him to get hit. I tried to find a source from closer to when the incident with Muhsin happend, and thought I found a good newspaper article from the Charlotte Observer, but they make you pay to get full copies of archived articles. If anyone can find a source from closer to 1997 I think that it could be made more clear what exactly happened. I expanded and reworded the racism section for more detail according to the sources. --EK711 03:18, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baby in burning car?[edit]

I do beleive a citation is needed for the claim that Collins saved a baby from a burning car. --StevenL 16:10, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You know, I can't really find anything on that anywhere other than mirrors of Wikipedia. And I think we would have heard something about it somewhere else (like a special on SportsCenter at least) if it were true. Removing until somebody can come up with a citation for it. "Starting" Quarterback[edit]

This applies to all quarterbacks, but I suppose I will ask it here: What determines, on wikipedia, if a player is considered the starting quarterback for the succession box? After Steve McNair's trade, Billy Volek started games in the pre-season, but Collins was named the starter for the 1st regular season game. Plenty of QBs who are being evaluated start in the pre-season but that doesn't mean we put them in the succession. Is there a clear rule?

I'd guess there is no set rule, not on Wikipedia and not among football fans/analysts. I think Collins would probably be listed as following McNair, only counting games that actually mean anything, and only counting when a guy is "the starter" rather than simply the guy who started a game or two. After all, Young did start the fourth preseason game, and Matt Mauck of all people started that game against Jacksonville last December. Danthemankhan 06:00, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Someone put this page on restricted editing, people are starting to vanadalize it. I'll get rid of the paragraph that was vandalized. User:The Collector 17:26, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

35,000 yards[edit]

The article says:

Collins needed only 90 yards to eclipse the mark. On his 9th completion of 13 attempts, Collins completed a 17 yard pass to Justin McCareins to give him 107 yards on the day and 35,007 yards for his career.

This doesn't add up.

  • If he needed 90 yards to pass 35k yards, and a 17 yard pass gave him 107 yards, then he would have already had 90 yards and would have passed 35k.
  • If he needed 90 yards to pass (or reach) 35k yards he would have started with 34,910 (or 34,911) yards. Adding 107 would give him 35,017 (35,018).

One or more of the numbers must be wrong, and I suspect the wording is wrong too. "Eclipse" should probably be "reach." Eclipse = pass. If it were a record he'd want to pass it, but it's only a milestone so he'd only need to reach it. The wording of the article as a whole is also pretty informal, but that's pretty typical of sports articles. --Mugsywwiii (talk) 18:42, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
