Some "facts" to check[edit]

The Kettledrum Inn The inn was named after a famous derby winning racehorse in 1861. Col. Towneley put Burnley on the map with his horse, Winner of the Epsom Derby in 1861, but kettledrum was seldom, if ever, at Towneley. He lived most of his life at Whitewell in Bowland. He was sold to Sir. T.Leonard for 550 guineas when Col. Towneley disposed of all his racing stock in 1870 and was exported to Hungary in 1872. Trained at Middleham?

Image[edit]

If you googling for a pic of Kettledrum, you will probably find a coloured engraving which is WRONG. The illustrator was probably given a monochrome etching and left to get on with it, as he coloured Kettledrum as a bay. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 08:10, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lancashire Connection[edit]

Although the horse was bred and trained in Yorkshire, he has owned by a member of a notable Lancashire family. His winnings paid for a Catholic Church in Lancashire. A pub was named after him in Mereclough in Lancashire. he retired to a stud farm in Lancashire. He was very obviously regarded as a Lancashire horse.
