Spanish film[edit]

"The 2000 film Km. 0 was a sex farce set in Madrid" was changed to "The 2000 film Km. 0 was a romantic comedy set in Madrid" with the comment "sex farce is not a genre, a romactic [sic] comedy is". Try telling that to anyone familiar with French, Spanish, or Italian films. And Km. 0 was definitely a sex farce, not a romantic comedy. Its own ads even identify it as such: "At Kilometer 0 - the very center of Madrid - relationships begin, love blossoms, and lives intersect as 14 people looking for sex, romance or anything in-between, come together in a passionately exuberant sex farce. The story follows a series of chance meetings, missed connections, and mistaken identities that give way to unexpected sexual escapades and romantic couplings. Certainly not unbiased as to whether a film is good or bad, or whether it is reminiscent of some particular other more famous film, but it's a reasonable source for the genre of a film. Do you have any citation at all for calling this a "romantic comedy"? I've seen it, and that is not the description that would come to mind.

Also, when you said in an edit summary that "sex farce" is not a genre: here are a few dozen references just from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and just from since they've been posting online. - Jmabel | Talk 04:23, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick look on IMDB reveals the database lists the film in the following genres: Drama, Comedy, Musical, Romance [2] . Neither "sex" nor "farce" pop up as one of the genres. This source, out of many, cites the film as a "romantic comedy" [3]. And frankly, this is the first time ever I heard anywhere that "sex farce" is used as a name of a genre. It is definitely a POV term drawing too much attention to the fact that it contains nudity and sexual situation, which frankly is only shocking to some people. --Kvasir 04:50, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"…is only shocking to some people" is a very confusing phrase. Do you mean "only some people are shocked by it" or "some people find it merely shocking"?

If you want evidence that the term is widely used, just Google on it, you will see that it is not uncommon at all. You not having heard it is neither here nor there, and it is no surprise that IMDB, being rather U.S.-centric, doesn't consider this a genre: it's not a U.S. genre.

I still believe you are wrong, but it is not a matter of enough consequence to be worth my fighting over further. Have it your way in the article; if anyone ever gets around to writing about the film (which, frankly, is probably too slight to be worth it) then this will be worth sorting out. - Jmabel | Talk 00:56, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should this really point to "Fundamentalpunkt" (and vice versa), which seems to be quite a different concept. (Try following the language links German -> French vs. French directly, to see what I mean.)

Support, without renaming the main article. It's pretty obvious to me that Kilometre Zero and Zero mile marker are the same thing. I'd prefer a re-direct and a hatnote to inventing a new title just to be neutral, lest we forget the gasoline v petrol wars from WP:LAME. Dave (talk) 23:04, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  - I still don't see the point of renaming. Miles are only used in road distance measurements by pretty much the United States. In the US, Zero mile posts are only a historical artifact and curiosity, with a couple of local exceptions. For 90% of the US population, they are not used in any official capacity. However, they are used officially and nationally in many other countries, that all happen to use kilometer as the unit of distance for road markings. So we're going to invent a new title out of thin air to accommodate that one exception that is a historical curiosity? However, I might be persuaded to rename the article if the scope is expanded to include the "zero point" markers that are used by many cities for addressing and street numbering purposes. Move[edit]

I like zero distance marker both as less BIASed and NPOV and in keeping with the COMMONALITY proviso to our treatment of American versus British English. I can't use Ngram or Scholar on this computer, but basic search results show "zero mile" as much more COMMON in both American and British ENGLISH. All the same, we shouldn't use that as the default as that's somewhat BIASed in the other direction.
