List[edit]

I have given a major update to the list, with loads of help by User:S7rugg1e. It hasn't been completely polished, mainly the English needs to be improved in a few places, mainly towards the end, but it is much more complete and informative than before. The history of my and S7rugg1e's additions can be seen here.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  14:00, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Move page[edit]

This page needs to be moved per WP:SAL#Naming conventions to something that starts with the words "list of" I recommend it be moved to List of winning techniques in sumo, unless someone thinks of a more concise name. List of kimarite should be avoided per WP:NAME#Use English words. Bradford44 16:48, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the more English used the better. It would be made less concise, but maybe it should be called List of official winning techniques in sumo because the techniques are decided by the Japan Sumo Association rather than by convention or reporters or something like that.XinJeisan 17:04, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but the very first thing you ought to read once you get to the list is that the techniques are decided upon by the Japan Sumo Association. Bradford44 17:31, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not clear to me that this article constitutes a list per the intro to WP:SAL. It contains a considerable amount of explanatory text and can easily can stand by itself as an article. Compare List of named solar system objects, List of saints, List of basic philosophy topics, just to pick a few members of Category:Lists at random. Their primary purpose seems not to provide information as such, but to index other articles -- sorted, perhaps, along with some very basic facts, but not as the main references on their subjects as this one is. 非技, hiwaza and higi[edit]

"hiwaza" is not the reading of 非技, but rather "higi" is. see the furigana on an nhk site here: http://www.sumo.or.jp/SekitorikunNewTop/kimarite82#ctop (right hand side, 3rd from bottom). this reading can also be seen here http://www13.plala.or.jp/bigdata/kimarite.html and here https://spaia.jp/column/sumo/9416. this seems to be a fairly widespread misconception, but i feel it is worth the correction Orimazer (talk) 15:46, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for that, good catch. FourTildes (talk) 22:52, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
