Recent reverts[edit]

Per the discussion here, and my recent reverts here and here. The additions that WSDavitt has been adding are inappropriate as they are entirely made up of synthesis to interpret the financial state of the company, rather than writing based on secondary sources have said. In some cases, the material in the article did not at all match the source cited. WSDavitt is using this tactic to paint Kinross in a negative light on Wikipedia, giving all of his or her interpretations undue weight in the article. I see these edits to be far from following our neutral point of view policy, and suggest that, given his editing history, WSDavitt has some sort of conflict of interest, with the intent to vilify the company on Wikipedia for some reason. --kelapstick(bainuu) 00:20, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To repeat what was said in November and again on Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions today, WSDavitt's edits are clearly POV to the point where sources used are interpreted by him/her to say exactly the opposite of what they actually state. Example: "Kinross is on the verge of insolvency" being supported by WSDavitt with this source which says nothing of that sort instead stating "Kinross has very good liquidity". Copy edit[edit]

I came across these edits recently as well. I've consequently spent quite a bit of time copy editing this article in one of my sandboxes during the past couple of months. I am now in the process of updating the mainspace article with my draft. In short I've: tried to stay clear of primary sources as much as possible, which was one of the article's most glaring problems, improving overall referencing considerably; improved the article's prose, another of the article's main issues given the former version seemed to only revolve around bare-bones financial data; generally expanded content, with the concomitant rearrangement of sections to reflect the company's businesses in a more practical fashion; rewritten lede per WP:LEDE; moved "controveries" in-article, per WP:CRITICISM; performed general language/tone/factual/time updates. Lastly, I made a few image tweaks and will try to upload a few more useful photographs I found under a free-use license. I hope this addresses most of your concerns as it did mine, otherwise please leave any comments on my talk page. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 13:59, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work FoCuSandLeArN, I will have a closer look later on, but it seems quite an improvement on first glance. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it sure was a whopper! Let me know if you have any further comments. Regards, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 21:54, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit[edit]

Hello, I made an edit to this page, but I am in conflict because I was updating a link to the site of the company I work for. That edit is undone.

I'm going to try to paste the text I would suggest be changed below, but I don't know if that will work properly.

  • Information to be updated: Change of rank from fourth to fifth, change year of the ranking article and update the name of the author of the article.
  • Explanation of the issue: Just updating

Kinross Gold Corporation is a Canadian-based gold and silver mining company founded in 1993 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Kinross currently operates eight active gold mines,[1] and was ranked fifth of the "10 Top Gold-mining Companies" of 2019 by InvestingNews.[2] The company's mines are located in Brazil, Ghana, Mauritania, Russia and the United States. It trades under the KGC ticker in the New York Stock Exchange and under K in the Toronto Stock Exchange. MikerodgerINN (talk) 23:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Error - Is Kinross Gold one of the top 5 gold producers in the world?[edit]

According the the Largest gold companies Wikipedia article, Kinross Gold is not one of the largest gold companies. The Kinross Gold Wikipedia article says it is. Is there a reference for this comment?

Which article is correct? Is this dated information? FYI: Kinross has shrunk considerably during the past five years. WSDavitt (talk) 18:49, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you sort by 2016 revenue, Kinross comes out at #5. - Brianhe (talk) 07:00, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
