Is this transmitter still used?[edit]

What's this transmitter used for? The article for Black Hill gives a list of it's output; can somebody add the Kirk o'Shotts output?--ML5 (talk) 11:34, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this transmitter is still in use, i am unsure for what though although I suspect it is for radio broadcasts. --Brett ~ KaraokeMac (talk) 06:34, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How tall is this transmitter?[edit]

This article gives the height as 183m. It might be an optical illusion, but when driving on the M8, both Black Hill and Kirk o'Shotts look about the same height. The article for Black Hill gives its height as 303.6m, almost twice the height of Kirk o'Shotts. Are these heights verifiable?--ML5 (talk) 11:34, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's an optical illusion. The apparent height of a structure depends very much on where you're viewing it from. The further you are from a mast, the smaller it looks. --Harumphy (talk) 11:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opening[edit]

My recollection is that the transmitter was turned on early in order to show the funeral of George VI and then turned off for 6 months, returning in time for the Coronation. We lived in Cardonald and my father spent a month's pay on a TV set. We had the whole street in to watch the Coronation -I think the screen was 12".
