errors[edit]

you do have an article called Kato Koichi. It has several errors, the worst being the date of Kato being LDP secretary general. It also calims that the highly corrupt Ozawa ia a reformist. --203.112.2.202 05:10, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fire[edit]

I've removed the following "after he criticized Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's 2006 visit to the Yasukuni Shrine." and changed it to read that the fire was in relation to the aniversary of Japan's defeat.

– Using the abbreviation of each politician's party seems an unnatural method of disambiguating. By profession and year of birth seems to be the most common method. Alternatively, we could disambiguate by their constituency; the former Kato represented Yamagata Prefecture districts while the latter represented Tokyo districts.   • Question these presumably aren't the only 2 on the whole project? I suspect that in many cases the party will be more useful. Politicians aren't football players whose biodata (because they age quickly) is easily available. The most obvious disambiguator is the the party.     • Yes, they appear to be the only two on the English Wikipedia. As for the Japanese Wiki, they have a list of articles that start with the characters "加藤" here. They are not arranged in "alphabetical" order though, which makes searching tougher. But after a scroll through I was able to find ja:加藤弘一, a literary critic, as well as ja:加藤幸一 and ja:加藤耕一, both professors. Those articles in their current form would probably fail the English wiki notability requirements, but they show it is a common name. Since Kato is apparently the tenth most common Japanese surname, there are bound to be more notable people named Kocihi Kato in the future, but that is irrelevant for the current discussion.
As for the availability of biodata, profiles on government websites (e.g. the House of Reps website) provide such biographical details. I am also yet to see a campaign website that does not delve deep into the candidate's personal details (most even go as far as revealing their blood type). So I do not consider lack of data an issue.
It might be worth mentioning that the younger Kato was dumped by the DPJ before the 2014 election and that party no longer exists. According to the Japanese wiki article on him, he considered running as an independent in 2014 but ultimately didn't. If he makes a comeback in the future it will not be as a DPJ candidate, but currently he is known only for being a DPJ politician.
If consensus is that the party is the best disambiguator, then I think the word "politician" should at least be added afterwards. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:19, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
