Sock-puppetry[edit]

I am a bit confused concerting the sock-puppetry rules. It seems most of the changes that are purported to have been made by a single user were not made from different accounts but rather from different IP addresses without signing in. And the changes were fairly minor and complete with references. Sock-puppetry normally involves repeated identical changes which had been reverted by either someone from multiple accounts or by masquing identity. I suppose, using anonymous editing is a masquing technique, but the problem is that the changes are so insubstantial (and, apparently, accurate) that the people who should be sanctioned are those who revert the changes, not those who post them. Worse, locking the page is preventing some very serious updates, as Mr. Jordan has been in the news lately and the details are very much relevant to his biography. I would prefer to defer to someone with administrative experience to deal with this, but the changes should be allowed quite soon.Alex.deWitte (talk) 05:08, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I also want to add that the article, as currently written, is either illiterate or of questionable veracity. For example, one passage refers to "our small businesses"--not sure who "we" are supposed to be, particularly in encyclopedic context Alex.deWitte (talk) 05:21, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "our" to correct this. The article is now only WP:Semi protected - users that are Wikipedia:User access levels#Autoconfirmed users can edit here. If you are desirous to add reports of domestic disputes without any legal charges never mind even a conviction for anything, you will be struggling to demonstrate its notable value in a life story. Please present something here for discussion if this is what you are desirous of adding to this WP:BLP - thanks - Off2riorob (talk) 18:29, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously I disagree with you on the importance of a personal scandal under these circumstances. Check out BLP guidelines 3.2--allegations, even if negative, should be included if reported by reputable sources and are relevant to the public life--which, in this case, they are. There is actually no dispute of the allegations and Jordan's response to the allegations, which is the part I wanted to include because the statement goes beyond his dispute with his wife. Right now, this is a very short article with a lot of unnecessary trivia (member of a Masonic Lodge? How is this important to a BLP?). It is also very poorly written, in some parts mangling grammar. The part on "Fiscal Policy" actually has nothing even remotely related to "fiscal" policy. First graf reports Jordan's position on tax policy, the second is an environmental issue. Certainly this part is in dire need of revision. I've been writing/editing for a living for some time, so this kind of errors really jump out. How others on Wiki perceive this is an entirely different question. Alex.deWitte (talk) 07:10, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

Jordan's Funeral Home obituary lists a different date of birth (February 10th, 1977) than the DOB listed here (January 14th, 1977). Project Vote Smart also lists 1/14/1977. The obituary is here. I have more confidence that the obituary DOB is right one but it wouldn't hurt to doublecheck? RobbieFal (talk) 03:04, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
