Legal status of homosexuality in Bolivia[edit]

Bolivia adopted a new Penal Code in 1834, which is still in effect today, so this is probably a year when Bolivia legalized homosexuality, as the code was modeled on Brazilian one. [2] page 52. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.51.136.157 (talk) 06:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Legitimacy of PlanetRomeo reference[edit]

The reference to the site "PlanetRomeo" that should contain data about a so-called "Gay Happiness Index" does not seem to contain that information. I looked it up on Google and found the report. The survey was conducted among people that visit their website PlanetRomeo.com, which is - to my superficial knowledge of how social sciences should work - not a good way to find reliable data. What's more, the number of Bolivian participants was 31. Again, I'm not an expert, but this can't be enough. I suggest this part of the text gets deleted by someone who is more certain of the illegitimacy of this source. Perhaps it's also a good idea to check other wiki pages on gay rights whether they contain this source too. Andeosr (talk) 09:05, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Civil unions[edit]

The civil registry continues to bar same-sex couples from registering civil unions.

The same-sex couple, foreign citizens who legally reside in Bolivia, applied to La Paz civil registry in May 2021 to register a civil union. In a June letter, the civil registry asserted that there is no current procedure to register same-sex unions in the country. The letter ignores that the civil registry recognized the union of David Aruquipa and Guido Montaño, a gay couple, in December 2020, based on a lower court order. The civil registry claimed it needs to wait until Bolivia’s Plurinational Constitutional Court reviews the lower court ruling ordering Aruquipa and Montano’s registration. The July ruling is now under review by the Constitutional Court and will have implications for all same-sex couples in the country. Therefore, I suggest to avoid premature conclusions and to await the decision of the the Constitutional Court.
