Calling Tony Stark[edit]

"armoured wheelhouse"? Without Lenton in front of me, I'd say this is nothing more than splinter protection. Can it be reworded for the uninitiated, who are liable to think this was equal to the turrets of KGV? TREKphiler ^{hit me ♠} 10:34, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Technically 'splinter proof' in the RN means at least 1 to 1.5 inch (25-37mm) of 'D' steel plating, as it denoted the ability to stop splinters from exploding shells. Bullet proof means being able to resist rifle calibre bullets, and can be as thin as 1/3 inch or 8mm. I have not found any references to splinter proof plating on RN DDs amongst numerous reference worksDamwiki1 (talk) 01:08, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I won't argue "bulletproof", if RN had a spec for splinterproof; I'm using it on a (loose) understanding of USN meaning, which may have a very different actual spec.
