Untitled[edit]

How come the article doesn't contain any mention of Bike Weekend? And I'm not sure that being a research fellow at Caltech qualifies someone as notable... I'll take a look at that article to see if there is some better justification. Doesn't Jim Sessler (former attorney general) live in Laconia? Maybe thats Gilford. Hmm. Rothemund is a recipient of the MacArthur award, but I'm not sure if there is another name by which the award goes. Possible Pun?[edit]

I was always under the impression that the name Laconia was chosen in part as a pun on Lake. Yes, its a good name with an old world connection, but it's also a city built on a lakeshore in a region known for its many lakes. I don't even know if it's true or not, much less have a citation for it, but if someone, say, from the local historical society could look into it, I'm sure it would be a nice tidbit one way or the other for the article. Namesake[edit]

Does anyone have any solid references/evidence Laconia, NH is named after Laconia, Greece? According to the official history on the city website it was named after the Laconia Company.

"The town's name was likely taken from the name of the original company formed by the Captain John Mason and the Masonian proprietors in order to sell parcels to the original colonists during the colonial era: the Laconia Company."
