Discography?[edit]

Hey, I noticed that the discography page had been shuffled off into the now-deleted page Lalah Hathaway discography. I'm not certain why the page was deleted, but does anyone know why the discography information wasn't replaced until now? Souldier77 (talk) 08:16, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who wrote this?[edit]

this article used to be more brief, but was more well written. It's since been greatly expanded, but the writing is pretty bad. Could someone please advise whoever put this together what the word "debuted" means???? For example, it says the song "Something" "debuted" at #21 on the R&B chart. This is incorrect- it didn't "debut" at #21, it PEAKED at #21. The person who wrote this makes the same mistake several times! You can add a tag saying that the article needs to be copyedited. Then someone will get around to working on those things. DaffyBridge (talk) 21:17, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Her band was too loud"[edit]

Under the heading "Stage", the article states "Dawn! E. Robinson of VocalMusician.com attended a Hathaway in concert and her review stated: 'The sound in the house was strange – the band was really too loud all evening. Even when the sound guy turned LALAH's vocals up (at the audience's request) the band got louder. I got the impression that the sound onstage was good though, because none of the singers appeared to be over-singing'." First, "Dawn! E. Robinson" does not seem to meet WP:N. Second, even if they did, the quote does not seem to add anything relevant to the article. One could find an infinite number of opinions presented on websites about an infinite number of performers and their performances, in which one performer or another is too loud, too quiet, or whatever. Unless this was some exceptionally significant performance (say, live at the Grammy Awards), or it is representative of most or all of a performer's performances, it is irrelevant to include here. Unless someone can justify its inclusion, I'm going to remove it. Bricology (talk) 03:44, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lalah Hathaway .[edit]

I don't know if you're aware of this or not but on America's best pics and videos someone's pretending to be you looking for money and looking for help to promote your next concerts just thought I'd give you a shout out to let you know what's going on that app. 96.233.79.73 (talk) 20:04, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Music and Voice[edit]

Regarding the claim that Lalah can sing "several" (more than two) notes at the same time, the citations in this section regarding her "overtone" singing are just a Youtube video, and a dead link. I found an archive of the link here: https://web.archive.org/web/20201112013504/https://www.grammy.com/grammys/news/making-something-learn-lalah-hathaways-special-talent. This is an interview with Lalah where she alone is claiming to be able to "sing multiple chords at once." Lalah is obviously misspeaking here, as "multiple chords at once" makes no real musical sense, and implies at least four tones coming from her voice at a minimum. Personally, I've seen the Youtube video, and while her voice is clearly able to emphasize a minor 3rd harmonic, this description of her abilities is overblown, and unjustified. Not to mention overtone singing is in no way rare, as it's been a huge part of folk music from Nordic countries to Tibet. I'd suggest simply saying "Hathaway utilizes multiphonic ("overtone") singing which allows her to "split" her voice and sing what sounds like more than one note at the same time."
