I just want to know what can i do to improve the lambda pi upsilon page. I tried to write it in a neutral point of view, and iam not advertising the organization. I just listed the essentials of the org like history and chapters and annual affairs they do. i looked at other fraternities and sororities pages and kind of copied their style format to write this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gera1030 (talkcontribs) 06:57, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I also wanted to improve the article by trying to make it part of the Wikiproject fraternities and sororities page. My intention is honestly not to advertise or take stand in writing this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gera1030 (talkcontribs) 07:06, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

The main issue firstly is, is Lambda Pi Upsilon notable enough to warrent it's own article in an encyclopaedia. To answer that you need to look and see if others, independent of the field are writing about it - to help look at :
Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
There are some references, but of all the ones I checked were only "in passing" references, mainly in lists of fraternities.
There is one other thing to consider, is that do you have a conflict of interest in this matter - are you or have you ever been a member ? for example.

No iam not a member of this sorority nor am i planning to be. I have many good friends that are part of this organization. I thought to create a page for this org because it was the only org on the wikipedia NALFO page that did not have an article. I also think it is notable enough. It is a very new and young org but i feel like it deserves some type of credit. When i looked at other organization's page, they didnt have much reference except their main website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.167.97.39 (talk) 03:19, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

I believe that because Lambda pi upsilon isnt featured in other sources, it does not mean it shouldnt have its own article in an encyclopedia. Because its a developing and young org, and its becoming very involved in the community, it should have its article on wiki. and there isnt a conflict of interest, i wrote this article on a very neutral point of view. very basic history, affairs, events, and their chapters. Where is the conflict of interest? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.167.97.39 (talk) 03:24, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

The problem with that is the guidelines for having an article are just that, i.e. that the subject has received significant coverage in other sources. Have a read of WP:GNG and WP:ORG so that you can see what WP is looking for. Codf1977 (talk) 06:45, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
