The Swedish word "lampskärm" (lampshade) is documented in 1854, according to Svenska Akademins ordbok. That means that the first lampshades were not used during the 1860's, but earlier. The text about the history of lampshades was added by the same user that added the text about "lampshade parachuting" which I believe would be a dangerous sporting activity if it had ever taken place. So far, I haven't been able to find any information about it being a real sport.Sjö 15:41, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
There is no mention of a sporting acitvity called "Lampshade parachuting" on the net.
A word for lampshade has been used in Swedish since at least the 1850's, which means that the claim about the first lampshades being made in the 1860's is wrong.
"Candle-coil" or "candle-coils" in the meaning lampshade are not found by googling. Nor is there such a word in my Chambers Concise 20th Century Dictionary.
This means that Yomanha2000's edits are simply wrong on several points.Sjö 15:48, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
History section[edit]
What I labeled the "History" section was added by an anonymous or new user in the last two months. Most of it has nothing to do with lampshades specifically. I won't delete it wholesale, but I advise anyone who is knowledgeable in this subject to remove parts of that section that are incoherent or irrelevant. The sentence "During the Middle Ages in the late 17th-century in Paris..." is inconsistent, the Middle Ages end in early 16th century, so it is in late 17th century or in the Middle Ages but not both. I'm removing the Middle Ages part. 88.9.30.251 (talk) 10:00, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Removed Types of lampshade[edit]
The section had become a list of shapes and materials, unreferenced to boot. A list of articles about specific lampshades would fit well in the article, but I don't know of any such artcles.Sjö (talk) 06:28, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
