Mayank Sangal[edit]

Mayank Sangal is a wildlife photographer. He credits his childhood in India, where he spent a lot of time in the mountains and at the ocean, for his strong interest in exploring nature, both above and below water. According to his mother, his first publication was in second grade, when a poem he wrote in Hindi about his pet dog won a competition and was published in the local newspaper. Since then, Mayank’s interests have led him to various remote corners of the world in pursuit of stories, photographs, and research on animals. Mayank made more than 60 climbs of Mountains to explore the forest and their associated wildlife. He has pursued his passion for exploring wild places and documenting little known and endangered wildlife by becoming a regular contributor to YouTube. Mayank’s initial motivation for going to Karnataka and Kerala and various other states in India was adventure and a curiosity about rain forest life. This developed into a program of scientific research on rain forest ecology, but after several years of doing rain forest science, he became increasingly frustrated to see habitat that was being rapidly destroyed. He decided photography and popular articles were a more effective means of communicating the need to protect rain forest habitat, and turned his energies in that direction. Mayank also continues to collaborate with his friends on Elephant research and conservation projects in Karnataka. Mayank’s ongoing project on Elephants of rain and dry deciduous forest is his most ambitious to date. He is attempting comprehensive coverage of this extraordinary animal in the wild, where they are an extreme challenge to locate and photograph in their dense rain forest homes. So far he has done 42 months of fieldwork in the Karnataka and Kerala region on this project. Mayank continues to pursue his interest on Wild Elephants, in spite of the hurdles, frustrations and dangers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mayank Sang (talkcontribs) 21:18, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
