The face plates added are all for threaded spindles which were very standard a century ago when these plates were made.
The page author writes of various mounting systems and isn't too clear. Common systemms beside the threaded spindle
include what is called the American long taper (which is a keyed and tapered spindle with the workholding attachment held
tight up on the spindle with a draw nut. there was also a 'short taper' or the A series that uses the same alignment taper as the cam lock, but instead of having cams ---bolts come through from the front and bolt the workholding attachment to the spindle
with the short taper providing the alignment.
It is unclear to me whether the writer was attempting to describe the threaded spindle or the 'short taper' in his mention of the various types of workholdindg mounts.Rvannatta 04:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
