A 2GB 2018 LattePanda
A 2GB 2018 LattePanda
  • ... that the LattePanda (pictured) has the same specifications as some MacBooks but costs a third of their price? Source: "The new LattePanda Alpha single-board computer may be similar in size to the tiny Raspberry Pi but its specs are to closer to an Apple MacBook ... the LattePanda Alpha starts at $358 .... The LattePanda Alpha uses the same class of Intel processor as found in the $1,200 12-inch MacBook.([1])
    • ALT1:... that the LattePanda (pictured) has the same specifications as some MacBooks but costs about $1,000 less? Source: as above

  • New article. Long enough (just). Suitably referenced. QPQ done. Photo is suitably licensed. Earwig's Copyvio Detector is happy. There are issues with both hooks. Yes, it does say what is stated in ALT0 in the sources, but it doesn't say that in the article. With regards to ALT1, it's not $1,000 cheaper but closer to $800. I've tweaked the prose for ALT0. For ALT1, whether 842 is "about" 1,000 depends on context. In this case, something over $1,000 versus something far under it possibly is. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 23:19, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've duplicated the appropriate ref in the target article so that it appears at the end of the relevant sentence (one of those silly little DYK rules). With that, ALT0 is good to go. I've struck ALT1 for clarity (and no, I don't want to get into a discussion whether 842 is "about" 1,000). Schwede66 00:01, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Isn't the hook rather promotional? Yoninah (talk) 13:00, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you, but it doesn't sound so hooky. There's not a lot to work with in the article. Pinging Ritchie333 one more time for another hook. Yoninah (talk) 17:14, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do you need a reliable source saying that Macs are expensive, or would you say it's original research to find that second hand Macs on eBay are more expensive than second hand PCs, let alone Raspberry Pis or other small form factor computer boards? I honestly don't know what you're getting at here. You have given no reason what the issue is with the hook other than “I don’t like it waaah!” so I am disengaging from you. Please do not ping or template me again, Thankyou. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:10, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article seems to exaggerate the capability of the LattePanda vs. the MacBook based on the sourcing given. The article says the LattePanda uses "the same class of Intel processor", not the same one (are they the same speed processor, or just the same class?). It also says that while the LattePanda is similar in size to the Pi, "its specs are closer to an Apple MacBook", which to me reads as if, on a continuum between Pi and MacBook, it's closer to the latter. (If it were all the way there, I would expect the source to say that rather than "closer to".) So "similar specifications and capability" strikes me as a major reach, absent a more specific source. Note also that this was in comparison to the MacBook, which used m3 chips in its less powerful configurations, not the MacBook Pro as stated in the article. Because of the inadequate support of the hook claims in the source, I have struck the original hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:47, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can turn a LattePanda into a Hackintosh easily enough [2]. I've put MacOS High Sierra on a 2012 Dell Optiplex and it runs fine. Nice to know people hate my Wikipedia writing. See you at Wikipediocracy, probably saying something about Trump's impeachment. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:36, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm marking this for closure since it's clear Ritchie333 isn't going to address the issues. If he wishes to engage civilly, that's up to him, but absent that this is over. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:24, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Recognizing that this DYK might be over already, I'm not sure how much more specific a source BlueMoonset wants. There's only 1 12" MacBook model that came with a 7th gen m3 CPU, which was the 7Y32 model. The source very clearly states LattePanda has a 7Y30, which is only 100mhz slower base clock. They have the exact same RAM configurations. Not sure how much more "similar spec" they could be. That the article said "MacBook Pro" was probably an innocent mistake I already fixed. -- ferret (talk) 22:28, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ferret, the sources do not say that they have the exact same RAM configurations and 100mhz difference in clock speed; indeed, the weasel wording of that particular source is not adequate to support the hook. (Sourcing is key here.) It seems you have specific knowledge of the separate machines, but at the moment, absent specific sourcing/comparisons in that regard, it's effectively WP:OR. Don't other reliable sources do the relevant comparisons? BlueMoonset (talk) 05:24, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
