Thoughts on this[edit]

@Blaixx: Any thoughts on the validity of this article after it was announced that the three semi-pro leagues would align under a common L1C? I modelled this page after National Premier Leagues, the similar Australian overarching league. RedPatch (talk) 20:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC

Hi RedPatch, I've been thinking about this too and I'm still not sure. It's not really clear what L1C is or does and the news hasn't really been picked up by many (any?) outlets. I do think either a short article here or a redirect to a section in another article (maybe Canadian soccer league system?) is warranted. BLAIXX 20:57, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Canada soccer was hinting at the creation of a new Inter-Provincial Cup type tournament, although nothing is confirmed yet. Nelson Roy (talk) 20:39, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the fact that I only found the primary sources was the reason I opted for a draft to start. I've since found this source from CityNews, but still not much known. I guess waiting until more information is known/reported is fair. RedPatch (talk) 17:14, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, news is slowly trickling out. There will be a League1 Canada tournament for the women in August 2022 featuring the league champions. RedPatch (talk) 20:50, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great! That solves one issue. BLAIXX 00:10, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I made a draft for that competition here if you are interested on working on it with me. Looks like there will be a long wait before we can add any decent information though as not enough information (such as competition format) has been released yet. Nelson Roy (talk) 03:51, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would probably re-name your draft to 2022 League1 Canada season and make it specifically for the year. The best comparison to League1 Canada is the Australian second tier. They have the main article at National Premier Leagues which describes both the "league" and the finals series (champions tournament) - instead of one for the NPL 'league' and another for the NPL finals tournament, then they have individual season articles which have the league tables and the bracket such as 2019 National Premier Leagues. RedPatch (talk) 12:34, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. We can just include all the (potential) combined competitions on each yearly article then? Nelson Roy (talk) 19:07, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Publication?[edit]

Do you think this draft is ready to be moved? Personally I think it is, but let me know if more should be done first. Nelson Roy (talk) 05:41, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like it can go to mainspace. It's not very long, but it does basically describe everything that is known and L1C has been getting talked about on reddit and other boards, so it's not like it's a complete unknown. With time, more information will be shared and then added to the article. RedPatch (talk) 14:24, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree although I'm not as sure about the "Draft:2022 League1 Canada season" article. BLAIXX 14:27, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For the 2022 League1 Canada, since it feels like table overload, I was thinking something like 2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification#Final_positions_(first_round) using points only tables side by side, might make the page feel like it would flow a bit better and be a better flow and look nicer. Only issue is the tables wouldn't be the same size since L1O is double/triple the size of PLSQ/L1BC. RedPatch (talk) 14:51, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that one is not ready yet. I was only talking about the main article. The seasonal one can wait/be discussed further. Nelson Roy (talk) 05:57, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done. It does look a bit odd as all these leagues have a different number of teams, but it’s definitely more organized. Feel free to check it out. Nelson Roy (talk) 19:13, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. It definitely looks better like this. Thanks for doing that! The previous way just felt like stats overload. The differing team amounts definitely looks a bit off, but nothing we can do about that. Once L1O moves forward with the division split in 2024 with a 12 team top division, it'll look a lot better and more even. RedPatch (talk) 23:57, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Should we move it now? Nelson Roy (talk) 18:14, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I went ahead and moved this article, since we all seem to agree. RedPatch (talk) 11:08, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Titles section[edit]

I feel like the titles section of this article should be split into two subsections, a table for trophies won within the League1 Canada system, and then maybe a list of trophies won outside of it. This in my opinion provides a better comparison. Additionally, there should probably be a separate column in the table for inter-provincial championships, and provincial league cups, rather than just "cups". RedBlueGreen93 17:26, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should this section even be here? Feels like it would be more appropriate to just have it on each league page. It's huge and cluttered on this page and will only become more so as L1A starts and potentially Maritimes and Prairies. RedPatch (talk) 17:49, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both of you. I think at a minimum we should limit this to L1 titles only but I'm not opposed to removing it entirely. It does feel like an apples to oranges (to grapes) comparison and I question the value of having it. Does any other sports league have such a combined table for division winners? BLAIXX 04:17, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and removed the table because I think it's unsuitable in its current form. Maybe there's a way to make it work? Here's how it would look split up by gender or showing league championship trophies only: User:Blaixx/sandbox/L1C. BLAIXX 03:16, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I like the league-only table. Maybe after a couple seasons and more D3 national championships, we could add a column for Inter-provincial titles, but we can figure that out at a later date. No use in comparing any other honours that vary significantly across the provinces. RedBlueGreen93 20:00, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
