Origins of this article[edit]

This article was creating by moving material here from four stubs: Leather dying, Leather painting, Leather carving and Leather stamping. All of those articles had flaws, and the moved material was moved as-is. It still needs to be cleaned up and sourced. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 04:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, not at all! See Talk:Leather_dying, etc. 24.242.75.217 (talk) 22:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs additional information including history, edging, stitching, and the different types of leather. Overall the current information is accurate and unbiased. Meggabyte (talk) 02:15, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

@Schazjmd:, In my humble opinion, there is a place in this article for an "External links" section, showing examples of leather crafting. Of course, the link does not have to be the YouTube tutorial video that I uploaded a day or two ago, but any one would do just fine. The logic that "there are countless YouTube videos on leather-crafting; no reason to single this out as an external link," is a non sequitur. If that were, indeed, a valid and logical statement, we would never upload an image to a Wikipedia article, since there are literally thousands of images to choose from on Wikimedia Commons. I hope that I'm making sense to you. I honestly feel that people can be inspired by leather crafting by watching a visual arts production, such as a demonstration shown on video. This simply adds another dimension to the article. Feel free to respond and tell me what you think. No harsh feelings. Be well.Davidbena (talk) 21:40, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidbena:, I don't agree that we should be adding links to how-to videos in External links. Encyclopedia articles aren't about how to do something. And readers who can find a wikipedia article are more than capable of searching YouTube for what they want. But if you insist on adding one, I think a more appropriate choice would be something like 6-Minute Intro to ~25 Leatherworking Tools or Leather 101. Schazjmd (talk) 22:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since I have no particular preference, any video that can inspire our viewers to take an interest in leather-crafting is fine with me. I have no intention to promote any particular style of any particular craftsman. Leather working tools are important, as you rightly suggest, but also what can actually be achieved with these tools if applied properly (whether purses or wallets, sheaths, belts, holsters, saddles, pouches, straps, etc., etc.). I'll let you decide. Be well.Davidbena (talk) 22:22, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
