GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

I didn't even know there were Lebanese people in Haiti (even though I wrote the Levantine Arabic article) so it's quite interesting to me.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (inline citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
"TVovermind" is probably not RS though :)
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Missing information that can probably be found in reliable sources:

Demographics:

  • What about the evolution of the "Demographics"? How many people settled there initially? Is the population stable? Where do they live?
  • Which religion? I found: Most of them were not true Syrians, but Lebanese Christians: Plummer, Brenda Gayle (October 1981). "Race, Nationality, and Trade in the Caribbean: The Syrians in Haiti, 1903–1934". The International History Review. 3 (4): 517–539. doi:10.1080/07075332.1981.9640260. ISSN 0707-5332.). The fact that Lebanese people were called 'Syriens' should be mentioned as well.
  • Language: the information from the infobox should be in the article as well. Is Arabic still spoken? I found The weekly Arabic radio programme in Haiti, for example, is run by a Lebanese Maronite in The "Syrians" of Jamaica, Nicholls, David. Jamaican Historical Review; Kingston Vol. 15, (Jan 1, 1986): 50 (statement also repeated in 'No Hawkers and Pedlars: Arabs of the Antilles').

Other potentially useful sources:

"Discrimination" could/should be re-integrated into "History". The article does not cover discrimination in the early 1900s (per this non RS, but we can probably find an RS]).

  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  2. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  3. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
I think images could be added, for instance from here if free of rights (the article says that these "Syriens" are mostly Lebanese].
  4. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
For now, but I'm sure issues can be fixed very quickly.
Failed given the lack of improvements. a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 09:53, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Status query[edit]

A455bcd9, An anonymous username, not my real name, where does this review stand? The article hasn't been edited since the review was posted, and it's been over five weeks since the most recent post here. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:57, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should I "fail" the review then? a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 21:06, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies; I've been semi-active on Wikipedia and very busy IRL. I haven't given up on the article, but if you would rather close this for now, you may do so at your discretion. Anonymous 02:50, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A455bcd9, An anonymous username, not my real name, it's now been two months since the review was started, and none of the issues have been addressed. Unless Anonymous can commit to address the issues raised in the next seven days, I'd say that it's time to "fail" the review. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:46, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will do. a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 09:41, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
