Can we have a "Racquets Used" section on this page please? Like the other major badminton players. Would just make it a little more interesting to know whether or not you use a professional player's racquet. JordanGreen09 (talk) 21:56, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"World's weakest number one"[edit]

Lee has thus been described as the "weakest world number one" - This statement is biased as it is only the view of certain quarters. It is neither factually substantiated, or statistically proven. More importantly, it is an 'impression', not actual data. In this case, if this statement were to be retained, the opposite view that it is not true due to his recent wins MUST be retained in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 10:05, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to Lee history against Lin Dan, that is not a impression, nor biased. Furthermore, one All England win is unable to deflect him from what from the past. Remember, Lee stay long enough as World No. 1 without world title, unlike others. --Aleenf1 11:15, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More importantly, you cannot judge a particular person's history by using only Lin Dan as his measuring stick. I did the fair thing to both of us to take out that section. If you want to retain that, if I may suggest it be placed in the later body of the article. By putting it at the introduction part you are diminishing his other achievements, though it may be fewer than Lin Dan, and I would consider that unfair treatment. Most notable athletes have their key achievements listed in the introduction, not that sole blemish. Wikipedia would agree with me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 13:53, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Aleenf1, but Faltasian is correct here, and for a number of reasons. The lead should briefly summarize the whole article; thus if material about Lee's supposed "weakness" is placed in the lead (introduction) then there should be more detail about this in the body of the article, (a section, say, that compared Lee's career to Lin Dan's) but there isn't. You've simply chosen to put this taunting by the Chinese press in the lead even though it does not connect to anything else in the article. Moreover, this is a clear case of undue weight being accorded to one particular source. Why should the opinion of someone who writes negatively about Lee for a rival badminton nation's press be exclusively used in the article's lead? Badmintonhist (talk) 17:05, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I've been trying to explain it to him for a long time. It's not that I am a fan of Lee Chong Wei or anything. It's just bad wiki-ing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 16:14, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am still contending that this section is a biased comment based solely on the Chinese media's report on a Chinese tournament, and is undue weight. My argument isn't about whether you THINK he is the weakest world number one, it is about BIASED JOURNALISM. If you want to be technical about it, another Malaysian, Mohd Roslin Hashim, was a world no.1 player for three weeks and did nothing - in my OPINION, he is the weakest world number one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 04:53, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The person who is reverting my changes is not able to refute my above argument. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 05:52, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You entitled your opinion, but nobody cares. Press release is still the fact, nobody going to refute it. --Aleenf1 13:11, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your decision to only highlight one press statement without considering its place among other press statements makes your edit more biased than ever. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltasian (talkcontribs) 03:38, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth of Lee Chong Wei[edit]

Hey guys, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't Lee Chong Wei born in Penang instead of Bagan Serai, Perak? Referring to Badminton Association of Malaysia and many other resources, apparently Wikipedia's the only source I see that does not say Penang. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lyncheong (talkcontribs) 14:20, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You should ask User:Mnemonic kek, he claims it is right. --Aleenf1 14:37, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please read his autobiography "Dare To Be A Champion". The information on internet maybe incorrect but there is no reason for Lee Chong Wei to make any mistake about his place of birth in the book which written by himself.(Mnemonic kek (talk) 17:23, 8 August 2012 (UTC))[reply]

This article is getting incredibly large![edit]

Wikipedia guidelines want articles to remain below 60k in prose size. That is not a hard ceiling, but 100k is used as that glass headboard. As of this writing we are looking at 98,083 bytes of markup, 25k of which has been added today. The prose is smaller but wikitext and filesize are getting high. This is just a courtesy stop in my editing but those who love the sport and this player please summarize before some administrator who doesn't really care comes in and chops this down for you. Good luck. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:28, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm noticing. --Aleenf1 08:40, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I should note that this is readable prose size but file size is also important in older browsers. The prose size (now) is fine but the file size is 300k and the wikitext size is 73k. The talk on article length seems to say wikitext of 60k has good readability and 60k - 120k as "being acceptable but splitting may be helpful". File size is talked about as <250K is good, 250K-500K is acceptable, and over 500k is not good for readers. So things are fine as they are. I was worried that if things kept getting bigger and bigger at the rate they were that problems would arise for you. I don't really edit badminton (though I loved watching the sport in the Olympics). Facts cannot be confused with Opinions[edit]

Bloggers or journalists can have their own opinions over who is the “best” badminton player. Wikipedia’s article requires reliable sources. We should not confuse personal opinions with facts. Wikipedia is not a place for us to give our own points of views. Editors should always present the facts with neutral points of views. The appropriate style of writing should include the identity of those who wrote/said their opinions, if such opinions are relevant to this article. Such opinions, however, are never suitable to be used as introduction of a biography of a living person.Thljcl (talk) 01:11, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but it is a contradiction in itself. Articles are never objective. A statement can't be neutral. The closest approach would be to look at his tournament results and himself. There can't be other reliable sources. He's a living person, so of course he is not included in reputable printed encyclopediae. --2.245.120.21 (talk) 09:36, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What's the point of this and then adding Taufik Hidayat as one the mens singles great? What a hypocrite. Hongkongpenang (talk) 23:11, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lee only indicated possible retirement[edit]

It remains unknown how would his condition be after playing those games. He only said he would retire if he could no longer be in good condition. Thljcl (talk) 23:24, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I will be reviewing this against the GA criteria as part of a GAN sweep. I'll leave some comments soon. JAGUAR  17:38, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reviewing the article. Although this might not be a good time for me (since I had another semester coming up soon), I will try to catch things up. NgYShung huh? 04:22, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the inconvenience this might bring. I'll try to make this review as swift as possible. JAGUAR  14:07, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Checking against the GA criteria[edit]

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, no copyvios, spelling and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
"Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei (born 21 October 1982..." - not sure what this is, but definitely remove it as it obstructs the opening sentence
The Personal life section's paragraphs are little choppy. Ideally they should be merged into three paragraphs for better flow; or you could just merge the three smaller paragraphs into one
"Lee took a swipe at chief coach Yap Kim Hock soon after the defeat" - what does 'took a swipe' mean in this context? Is it metaphorical or did he try to hit him?
All of the little paragraphs in the 2016 section could be merged into one big one
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
    No original research found.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

This article is looking great! Once all of the minor issues are addressed then this should easily pass. JAGUAR  14:15, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've fixed the "taken a swipe" (it means like criticising someone) sentence just to be more clear for readers. I also join together the paragraphs at the 2016 section and also the personal life section. By the way the "Datuk Wira" was added by someone, which I've never heard of that before, but now it is reverted back to Dato' now. NgYShung huh? 09:34, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for clearing that up. I've looked through the article again and am happy that this meets the criteria (it was very close before I reviewed it anyway). It is well written, comprehensive and the sources all check out. JAGUAR  17:48, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
