Work in progress[edit]

[1] expanded , inline references.

  • There are two gaps in the text where I need to add descriptions of the two surveys
  • I will expand (a bit) the history after 1854 later
  • I will look at the refs and tidy later on.
  • Haven't proof read it fully yet either
  • I;ve removed the list of shareholders and replaced it with a list of directors - there's a link to a longer list of shareholders though.

There are some mysterys

  • The letter to the Leeds Mercury mentioned in the previous revision seems to be given three different dates separated by about a decade
  • Some of the books, which should be reliable seem to be a bit mixed up about the original stations - therefor I've the reference that has a timetable reprinted for 1835.
  • I'm still confused about "York junction" - was there a station in 1834? or soon after- was there a station before the Y&NMR was built - maybe demolished too?
  • Edward Robert Petrie is listed as a director - all I could find was Robert Petre, 10th Baron Petre who died in 1809 ?
