Sources Notes[edit]

I've added a {{sources}} template to this page. Since Kottke's autobiographies tend towards the ... embellished ... it would be useful to have as many independent sources as we can find for any autobiographical details. :-) Tim Pierce 17:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I removed the {{sources]] template as I have added a bunch of sources. Agreed that things can get "embelished" for Leo... they spread all over the web, probably from Wiki mostly. There are still spots that need clean up and additional sources and could be individually tagged. Airproofing (talk) 23:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your work here, Air. Jgm (talk) 13:06, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genre[edit]

I'm not sure about the "blues" designation here; I've never heard or read Kottke describe his own music that way and I can't think of a Kottke song I'd defend as "blues" or even "bluesy". Of course we are dealing with a guy who defines "unclassifiable", what do you all think? Jgm (talk) 13:12, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found a new photographer interested in Wikipedia[edit]

I was looking through Flickr for photos for biography pages lacking photos, and found a photographer who mentioned that he'd uploaded a photo of Leo Kottke to Wikipedia, (not Wikimedia Commons), licensed it as free use, and set up an account in Wikipedia (it was his first effort here of any kind) but he never could figure out how to upload the photo! I got it up there, but it was only the third page where I'd done so. The other pages I did were Derek Trucks, and Susan Tedeschi. It's kind of trial and error, and I still don't know how to replace photos into infoboxes He wants to join us. I offered to help him get started and find him a mentor, but hope there might be one here with more experience to teach him, as he's a pro photographer- probably his primary area of interest. I still can't figure out how to replace the photographs in the infoboxes, and wouldn't mind learning how to do basic things like that myself! Do you know who might be willing to help him out, (and maybe teach me a few fundamentals in the photo department?) The whole explanation in WP mystifies me, and he's a professional photographer who frequently photographs famous people; and I think he's also bilingual Anybody??!--leahtwosaints (talk) 00:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Leon Russell and Leo Kottke?[edit]

Did Leo Kottke evey play or record with Leon Russell? Different styles but I think it would be interesting to say the least. 2600:1016:B018:C0DC:2905:8A85:9AA9:708D (talk) 19:56, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that observation. Just for the record, Wikipedia can only show content based on published accounts, so that type of thing would firstly be needed, before any text additions. Reminds me of Alvin Lee and Mylon LeFevre .--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 20:09, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Family back ground[edit]

There is probably some room to extract facts from his "embillished" life story. He does seem to have been an army brat of some sort, though what the role his dad had is unclear. It seems to have been related to physical education and entertainment! After the military career the father is to have been a golf pro. Some lines could be extractd from the live album 1995 about one state and the working in the morgue. Just put it in quotes. Leo's first guitar seems to have appeared when his younger sister died. Some research is needed on that. Leo does introduce his Minnesota home at one point in his only DVD. A son is mentioned. He also quotes his kids there. Well, good luck. Some facts from his early years. The Navy and so on. https://www.redlightmanagement.com/artists/leo-kottke/ Other site: My mother was Dorothy Clugston and my father was Larry. My mother came originally from Indiana, but they met up here [in Minnesota]. My dad grew up in North St. Paul. That's where he learned to golf. The thing he's proudest of is the caddy championship he won here in '39. And he played golf regularly with Sam Snead for about two years. He taught hand-to-hand combat during World War II, was a referee and a hockey coach, but eventually went to work for the VA. During most of my growing up he was working for the VA. He was the entertainment director at a few hospitals. I probably came here because of the fact that they both had their roots here. It was a place I would see generally every summer for about a week. Wherever we were, we'd come back. http://www.guitarmusic.org/kottke/gtlka3.html Tero111 (talk) 13:59, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

From teaching "hand-to-hand combat" to "entertainment director at a few hospitals" sounds like an interesting career path. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:25, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
