Thanks for taking on this one as well TRM, pinging @LTFC 95: as they did the majority of the leg work on this one. Kosack (talk) 09:47, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing this. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comments no worries, looks excellent already.

  • "non-League" might like to link that for our non-UK-non-football readers. - Done
  • 70 apps for Luton is mentioned in the lead but I'm not quite sure how I arrive at that total from the main prose?
After proofreading the prose, it implies he made one appearance in 2002–03, three appearances in 2003–04, one appearance in 2004–05, twenty-two appearances in 2005–06 and forty-three appearances in 2006–07. I'm not really sure what else can be added? LTFC 95 (talk) 22:45, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "His first season with Norwich led " maybe replace that quick repeat of Norwich with "the club". - Done
  • Absolutely nothing post-football for the lead? I know it hasn't been long but just wondered if he'd done media/coaching/badges etc?
Added a small extra part about setting up his own academy. Kosack (talk) 20:37, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Barnett began playing ... playing... " perhaps switch the second "playing" for "competing"? - Done
  • "club Aylesbury United on a one-month loan.[8] He made his Aylesbury debut" again, try to avoid such a quick repeat when the subject clearly hasn't changed. - Done
  • "not included in Luton's matchday squads following the match until" -> "subsequently not included in Luton's matchday squads until" - Done
  • "two weeks later,[18] but returned to the starting lineup three days later" bit repetitive. - Done
  • I think perhaps the Luton Town section is somewhat over-detailed, especially given Barnett's only contribution (as described) in each case is to "appear". Perhaps just pare it down a little and focus on events that Barnett was involved in rather than a blow-by-blow account of each match he featured in? Compare " in a 2–1 home defeat to Zulte Waregem on 28 November 2013.[94] Wigan secured a place in the Championship play-offs after a 1–0 away win over Birmingham City on 29 April 2014, " which appears to deal with the majority of the 2013/14 season in three sentences...
This was something I looked at when I first came across the article and took out a chunk then. But you're quite right, there is an excessive amount of detail around this section. I've trimmed it significantly now, hopefully providing a more streamlined prose. Kosack (talk) 20:37, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "10th-place" no need to hyphenate in this context. - Done
  • "Barnett made a bright start" a bit lacking in encyclopedic tone. - Reworded
  • "He signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2011" I would take the real fact (four-year contract) and add it to the first sentence in that para, and ditch the "keeping him at the club until 2011" because we all know that's not necessarily true! In fact, seldom is...!
Done. LTFC 95 (talk) 21:47, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "this triggered a promotion clause" did his appearances clause ever get triggered?
I have been unable to find a reliable source that clarifies whether or not the appearances clause was triggered. As there does not appear to be coverage on this matter, this may suggest that the clause was not triggered, but there is no way to verify this as far as I can see. LTFC 95 (talk) 22:29, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • " joined West Brom's Championship rivals Coventry City on loan until the end of January,[61] having made just two substitute appearances in the league during the 2009–10 season." maybe " joined Championship rivals Coventry City on loan until the end of January,[61] having made just two substitute appearances for West Brom in the league during the 2009–10 season."?
Done. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • " injuries sustained to Michael Nelson..." maybe just me but I would say either "injuries to..." or "injuries sustained by..."
Removed "sustained". LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "After featuring a 2–1 " missing an "in" there?
Done. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "On transfer deadline day, " do non-experts know what that means and when it happens (and when it "SLAMS SHUT")?
I've linked the term to Transfer window. Kosack (talk) 09:11, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • " with Ben Turner as Cardiff went on to win the Championship title.[86] His loan was later extended until the end of the season," reads out of order.
Reordered. LTFC 95 (talk) 21:09, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "rescuing a point" bit tabloid.
Reworded. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "in a shock 2–1 away defeat" according to? Tone.
Removed "shock". LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • You use "the full 90 minutes " five times, thrice in a single paragraph.
Reworded three instances. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "With Wigan now in League One, following their relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2014–15 season,[108] Barnett's first appearance of the 2015–16 season was once more a League Cup ..." Reads odd, Perhaps something like "Wigan were relegated to League One at the end of the 14/15 season and Barnett's first appearance in 15/16 was in the League Cup..." because it currently makes it sound like there's some causality in the relegation and his first appearance being in the League Cup. There are usually League games before even the first round of the League Cup so this causality isn't logical.
Reworded. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "For the remainder of the season his first-team opportunities remained limited, restricting him to 24 appearances in all competitions" to be honest, from November to early May, 24 appearances doesn't really seem "limited" to me.
Reworded. LTFC 95 (talk) 23:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's it on a quick pass, I'll take a more solid look at the references in due course, but would welcome your responses to my comments, particularly about the perhaps overly detailed Luton Town section. It's on hold. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 20:01, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Other comment[edit]

Nice to see an ex-Canary getting his biog polished, thank you. You might want to make the caption for the "Carrow Road" photo more straightforward for people "... during his time with Norwich City" or similar? (There's no other mention of Carra Rud in the article) --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 10:04, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Dweller, I've amended the caption there. Kosack (talk) 12:25, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusion[edit]

Yes, a very good article indeed. I'm pleased to see the slightly verbose section on Luton trimmed down, and the article now seems to cover the pertinent moments in Barnett's career at the various clubs in suitable detail. Well written, easily meets GA standards, good work to you both, LTFC 95 and Kosack. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 07:10, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
