Title[edit]

If the title of this piece was "Les barricades mistérieuses", shouldn't the title of the article be moved accordingly? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:27, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait: The Love Letter[edit]

Why the Fragonard painting? It is not referenced anywhere in the page. Romit3 (talk) 16:28, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Making of wine" speculation[edit]

This content was added by Pascal Tufféry ([1]), with a reference to an article written by someone with the same name (Pascal Tufféry):

  • the making of wine, and especially the crushing of grapes (french article on the Clavecin-en-France website, January 13, 2018).[1]

References

The title of the reference ( http://www.clavecin-en-france.org/spip.php?article331 ) is "Les Barricades mystérieuses, par Pascal Tufféry" (Les Barricades mystérieuses, by Pascal Tufféry). The content of that article is an elaborate novel speculation: I've removed it from the article for the time being for doubts about reliability and/or WP:WEIGHT of the source. Other suggestions? --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:40, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • (@Colgill) Based on the consideration of Tufféry's conjecture provided by Simon Evnine in the cited secondary RS [2], I've now reinserted (here) this idea. Given that, at the time, I hadn't read this talk-page section (tut-tut ;-) I made this edit 'blind', thinking that it was appropriate in terms of both weight and reliablity. 86.161.190.27 (talk) 14:39, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of two suggestions for the origin of the title[edit]

I have removed the 'immanence / transcendence' suggestion as it seems to bear no relation to Couperin's life or music. The suggestion gave no citation. If you wish to revert please add a citation. I have also removed the suggestion of 'chastity belts' as a possible origin for the title. These items seem to be quite rare in history. Most surviving example seem to come from the renaissance period rather than the early 18th century. They seem to feature most in modern BDSM culture and in a sort of 'Hammer Horror' version of history. If any editor wishes to revert these changes citations should be given. I have also added the word 'intended' to the preamble for the list as it seems to me that there has been a tendency for people to add suggestions based on the 'what the music makes me think of' rather than 'what was in Couperin's mind when he gave the piece its evocative title. Move of Alma Deutscher suggestion to Homages and References[edit]

I have moved this 'barrels / barricades' suggestion to Homages and References as it is highly speculative and seems to fit better with the other subjective suggestions in this section. If any editor wishes to revert can they please give a more objective, substantial and cited justification. Colgill (talk) 12:42, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Classic 100 music of France countdown[edit]

Trimmed from ==Music== [3]:

"The piece was voted at #76 in the Australian 2012 Classic 100 music of France countdown."

Not appropriate or significant enough to merit a place in ==Music== imo. Perhaps somewhere further down the page? (I'm not sure where.) 86.172.165.238 (talk) 19:45, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
