Please. Wiki has articles telling us about every change of hairstyle of Madonna. This is an encyclopedia. Details about this event are significant; it was one of the only gunfights ever, in which someone attempted to assassinate a US President and failed. While I knew about this event from study of history, it was interesting to read how close these people came to actually killing a President: Gunfight in front of Blair House. 66.108.4.183 02:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. As the individual who created this article, that was my intention - to provide information about the attempted assassination, how it was foiled, and how close it came to actually succeeding. All of which highlight the heroism of Officer Coffelt.

Secret Service?[edit]

United States Secret Service states:

To this day, Coffelt is the only member of the Secret Service to die while defending a U.S. President against an assassination attempt.

Leslie Coffelt was a member of what was then known as the White House Police. It was a uniformed unit that functioned under the control of the Secret Service, but lacked the prestige of the Secret Service itself. Today, it is formally designated as the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service and, in large measure as a result of Officer Coffelt's death in the line of duty, is proudly claimed by its parent.Irish Melkite (talk) 07:52, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the first section to be a little more brief and to the point and linked "White House Police" to the Uniformed Division article so that it is shorted but still retains the information. Also, changed info on assassins as their names are mentioned in the details of the assault below and linked POTUS to Truman
