Issue in Trivia Section[edit]

Regarding the current final entry in the trivia section:

Krusty claims his first big laugh came when he was a boy at yeshiva school impersonating his father. He is seen quoting from a book and the other boys are laughing at Krusty as he mouths off "Blah, blah, blah Moses, blah, blah Elijah." Krusty is supposedly illiterate. How he was a yeshiva student despite being unable to read is one of the many plot holes about Krusty.

He was mimicking his father by saying "Blah, blah, blah Moses, blah, blah Elijah", yes, but he was obviously not reading that out of a book but rather mentioning names frequently uttered during Jewish learning. --Valley2city₪‽ 03:08, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The text of the article ignores the possibility that Krusty can (or at the time could) read Hebrew but was illiterate in English. This is not an unheard-of phenomenon in haredi yeshivas even in America. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 14:20, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is true, and that was the explanation that occurred to me as well. Except that in subsequent episodes it seems like he can't read due to some disability, rather than lack of opportunity. And it seemed that he had been a gifted Yeshivah student. One would have to posit that Krusty subsequently sufferred minor brain damage from substance abuse or injury. (And indeed, this was an occupational hazzard for clowns. Thinking about Curly Howard.) (The extent of his illiteracy is also inconsistent from episode to episode. I agree that this is a glaring plot hole about Krusty and something that distracts me whenever it is referenced in an episode.) (But if the clown is also a bit demented, then anything is possible...)
