Locks[edit]

Hi. Information for the Bromley Stop Lock and the Britannia Stop Lock please. Northmetpit (talk) 07:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Britannia was at the entrance of Limehouse Cut into Limehouse basin. The lock gates have been removed; and the bank rebuilt on the western side. See photo.
More: they seem not to have involved a change in level - but to exist to close off a section of the canal for maintenance. - So, (say) the Lee lost level, level could be maintained in the Cut. Kbthompson (talk) 08:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, the the Bromley Stop lock has also been removed. The overgrown remains are in the wall behind the floating towpath. I have an utterly unedifying picture of a lock hinge amidst some weeds, if you like (taken today). The two stop locks were simple wooden gates that could be closed to allow the section behind to be drained. Normally, they would be in situ flush against the wall. Sorry, they're not really there anymore. (Also got a pic of the weed skimmer). HTH Kbthompson (talk) 10:43, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some stubs created. Kbthompson (talk) 12:57, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Content removed[edit]

I have removed the following:

On the 11th of January 2012, a 15 year old boy slipped and drowned, becoming yet another victim of the unbounded canal.

Wikipedia is not a news service, and unless the event was somehow notable, I cannot see that it belongs here. If it does belong here, then the article on the A1 road ought to include all the people who died in road accidents. Bob1960evens (talk) 10:51, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
