Videography

Added contents of the Linkin Park page for starters, though I'd recommend a separate disography page for each of the side-projects etc. It would make this page less cluttered IainP (talk) 13:05, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Slash

The Wikipedia Manual of Style tells us that words are preferred over slash because the meaning of slash is ambiguous. I've edited this article to help it conform to the manual of style; certainly, a three-letter word is not hard to read. It also makes the meaning clear; a slash doesn't let us know if the group is alternatively categorized in only one genre then the other, or simultaneously in both. Converting the slash to "and" is a step towards writing a more complete, more readable article. And it meets our article style guidelines. -- Mikeblas 19:11, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it's true, but only in your opinion, and only about Linkin Park. Why does the thing you have said above not appear in other articles? Egr, 7/7/2006
Actually, since it's a matter of policy in the Manual of Style, it's far beyond just my opinion.
I fix 'em as I find 'em. With 1.2-something million articles, it'll take a while to cover everything. Search my contribs page for "slashectomy" if you'd like to easily find other articles that I've edited to comply; many others aren't so marked as I made the change as a part of other copyediting.
Meanwhile, I'm not sure why removing information from the article is the right solution. You might try expanding the text; "primarily nu metal with rapcore influences", or whatever fits, so it more accurately describes the band's music. -- Mikeblas 19:30, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Missing information

Did someone remove "Frgt/10" from the singles? I can't seem to find it. The cover image of "Lying From You" is also missing. Michaelas10 (T|C) 21:12, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Lying From You is a radio airplay-only single. For these singles, you won't find a cover at all.Maplejet 18:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Singles Table

I don't know what the hell has gone on but someone has replaced the "Pts.Of.Athrty/H! Vltg3" single with "Points of Authority" from Hybrid theory which was only ever a promotional video. Also the fact that "In The End" was released after "Papercut" has promted me to change these errors Cryo enix 20:29, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Runaway

This song was most likely a single as well (radio airplay only). If it's getting tons of airplay on the rock radio station here, then it should be included. Maplejet 18:32, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

The song is most likely not a single period. How can you justify a song being played off the radio as being a single, lots of radio stations play songs from albums that are not released as singles. also the fact that you said this in the year 2007 (7 years after the album which contains the song was released) makes me chuckle some and then some more Cryo enix 20:29, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Maybe it's a radio-only single instead like Lying From You was. There are often such singles by bands that are released in that fashion.Maplejet 23:44, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Format of page

Why was the format of this page so drastically changed? Looking back at an earlier version, the gallery tables used for the albums/singles looked much better. Anyone else agree? Dmiles21 03:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Meteora Certification

Meteora's certification is being repeatedly changed. A while ago it was 6x platinum, then it was changed to 8x, then back to 6x, and now it's at 4x. Can someone please provide proof (ie a source) that these changes aren't just being made because someone likes the sound of the numbers? --Benjamin Sheffield (talk) 22:00, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I keep seeing this crap too. There's a source cited (the RIAA database) which has it at 4x Platinum. Since that's the figure at the cited website and since the RIAA is the only organization that does album certifications in America, any other certification level posted is false. This happens on all kinds of webpages for bands - teenagers posting false certifications to big up their favorite groups, I guess. It's ridiculous. I'm reverting "Meteora" to 4x Platinum, which is the actual figure as given in the citation. Please don't change it - this is not a fan site, and even if it were you don't just make up numbers. Grow up, people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.189.246.215 (talk) 04:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

what gives? (Linkin Park Underground deletion)

someone deleted the entire text of the Linkin Park Underground section including track listing. That's completely unnecessary seeing as the respective article's already been deleted. I don't get it. Why is everyone so against the fan club CDs. They're a major part of the discography. Put it back or I'll find a way to.

24.184.184.177 (talk) 12:46, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah it sucks, the LPU is a well established OFFICIAL fan club with OFFICIAL CD releases separate from retail CD releases. I don't understand why they want to delete everything about it. The LPU article had good information, it's annoying how there's always a few wikipedians that feel deleting information is better than keeping it. Akadewboy (talk) 01:24, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Piano Instrumentals

This summer, I discovered on several websites a description of an album called "Piano Instrumentals" with piano versions of elder songs. The album was listenable on Deezer but as quickly disapered , to bad, it was a beautiful album. ft. Busta Rhymes

It is unknown yet if it will be the whole group, just Mike, or just Chester, but they will be featured in a song on Busta Rhymes upcoming album set to release December 4, 2007 called Back on My BS. The song is called "It Looks Like We Made It". It is credited as Linkin Park, but it is still unknown as to who from the band is featured or if it is going to be the entire band.

Well, today it's December 4, and the album hasn't been released, I guess. On the Back on My BS stands it will be released in 2008, how?

I deleted the edit from the talk. For Iknow23, the change proposed is to change 10x platinum for Diamond. We talked about this before. Technically, 10x platinum is diamond, and hybrid theory is diamond for sure, but in the riaa webiste it appears as a 10xplatinum in despite that there are albums labeled as diamond. If the riaa changes it to diamond, we ll change it. We have to put exaclty what the refs has. --Neo139 (talk) 04:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Agree with Neo139. We are to report what the verifiable ref states. We cannot presume to 'correct' them. Demos

There needs to be a section for their two demos, the one when they were Xero and the one when they were Hybrid Theory. They're much more important than their LPU releases. • GunMetal Angel 21:34, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Hybrid Theory appears as an EP. Should we add a demo section for just 1 demo ? --Neo139 (talk) 02:19, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Umm, did you misread? There are two demos. Also; what does the Hybrid Theory EP have anything to do with this? EPs aren't demos. • GunMetal Angel 06:16, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Thought Hybrid Theory was one demo. I misread xD Since demos don't appear on the official website or on allmusic.com, we should find reliable sources with information about them before adding them. --Neo139 (talk) 09:50, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Mmkay, it's just I would deem them notable per WP:ALBUM, usually demos can't really be consider note-worthy but since Linkin Park are one of the biggest musical groups established in this case it's appropriate to even have pages for each respective demo. I can get the tracklisting for each one, the covers and as for titles, they're both self-titled (one just being named "Xero" and the other "Hybrid Theory"), only problem is - as you said - is finding worthy sources for both of them. • GunMetal Angel 17:20, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Per WP:DISCOG there should only be 10 charts/countries in each table - obviously we have more than that here, so it needs to be pruned down. Modern rock tracks

who thought it would be right to take the modern rock tracks off of the singles discography considering they are one of the most successful acts on the chart and all references can be providedFeedmyeyes (talk) 22:31, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

If you are talking about the charts being removed, there is a maximun is 10 charts for singles and albums (See Wikipedia:DISCOGSTYLE. 3 of the charts were from US so I took out Rock and Alternative and leave Main that is the most important US chart.
If you are talking of why some things like In the End (2002) single is not listed but the other in the In the end single (2001) is listed is because both singles (with different tracklist) are listed in the article of In the End --Neo139 (talk) 22:38, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

i did visit the guide lines article and it did have a section that said you can ignore some rules if its best for the article and i think that adding the modern rock tracks is best for the article, it is important chart and they are one of the top bands in the charts 23 year history and all references can be provided, and helps the importance on linkin park as an alternative rock band.Feedmyeyes (talk) 23:10, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

You have a good point. Linkin did chart good on Alternative Songs. WP:IAR is for extreme cases, not for this one. 10 charts maximum. As France was the country that charted less. I deleted FR chart, and added Alternative chart second in the list.--Neo139 (talk) 02:04, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Hey, I am from US...but even to me it seems a bit much for US to get more than ONE column when there is a WORLDWIDE limit of 10 charts. Shouldn't another country's MAIN chart be given a chance to appear, instead of a US Genre chart??—Iknow23 (talk) 05:40, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I thought that too when I deleted modern rock tracks. But not everybody thinks like that. :\ It's impossible to everybody be happy. That's why consensus in WP:DISCOGSTYLE is so important. --Neo139 (talk) 15:44, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
True. This is so over-reaching, so everyone please contribute at Limit of 10 charts. But which charts? Consensus needed.—Iknow23 (talk) 00:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I don't think removing the rock and alternative rock charts was the best way to go. The Japan chart, for instance, only has one song from the band which charted -- and it was a rather weak one at that. Similarly, Italy has a rather weak showing from the band on its charts. I'm not sure why those two charts are there and not the U.S. rock and alternative charts, which are more indicative of the band's success -- especially in its most popular country (and home country). Enfestid (talk) 03:07, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Yea but we already added the information of Alternative songs chart in the LEAD. So we will be including the same information twice. I honestly don't care what which are the charts. Its ok to change it, but if we change it in one table, we have to change them in all. (And comment the certifications of the commented charts). All the tables should have the same charts if possible. Just don't delete any useful info, just comment it. Remember there is a maximum of 10 charts. --Neo139 (talk) 06:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Just because something's in the lead doesn't mean it shouldn't be elsewhere in the article. The lead includes the most important information, it's essentially a summary (or snapshot) of the article's most important aspects. For example, if you say an actor won an Oscar for a role, are you going to omit that from a chart detailing all the awards an actor won for that role? No, it makes absolutely no sense. We also don't have to change all the tables to suit that -- that too does not make sense. The information that is most relevant (or most prestigious) for the band should be the information we include. Again, if the band only has one or two charted songs in a country (and not even highly charted songs!), then why on earth are we bothering to include that information? It makes no sense. The point of these charts are to show success in the respective fields. If they aren't successful (relative to all the other success), then there's absolutely no point in including the information.

Contradiction

Certifications are based on shipments, not sales. More, record labels pay a fee to the certifying body (RIAA, BPI), who then audit and issue any awards. Most times albums and singles are certified for more than the actual number of copies sold. - eo (talk) 20:24, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Linkin Park: Project Revolution (not the concert - the album) is a little known 2004 remix album. I feel it needs to be listed on here. Here is a site with the album cover and track listing: http://www.supermusic.sk/album.php?idalbumu=34423&idskupiny=2292 -anonymous

This list used to be very complete in terms of certifications (see here), but after going to the WP:FLC process they advised me to remove them. The '50 million' number is on album sales (studio+live+remix+EPs). As always, when the number came out it was waay over the possible number on sales (based on certs and nielsen data we had). User:Hosam007 pointed me out he found a source that said Meteora sold 16 million copies worldwide. The femalefirst source for 16m meteora sales can't be considered reliable (given context in WP:RS) and it looks like a Citogenesis case to me. The source is dated September 21, 2012. On September 20, 2012 this list said Meteora sold 16m citing a source which claim it was 11m. Firstfemale admins probably copied it from here. But lets look further...

The 16m was first added here on 2 July 2012 citing last.fm as source. Last.fm can't be considered reliable because its an open wiki. The 16m claim was removed but later re-added one, two, three times In July, by user User:Hosam007.

Lets look at the last.fm article. On Last.fm, the 16m number was added to Meteora's last fm article by user Timitzi on August 2, 2009 citing as a source Wikipedia's Meteora (album) article. It was one edit which copied the entire Wikipedia article.

On August 2009, Meteora article said "16 million worldwide to date" citing a Billboard source that said 10 million. The "10 million" to "16 million" was changed by an IP on July 30, 2009.

Of course the IP edit was sneaky vandalism, but now you probably understand why we have to be very careful when analyzing the sources. --Neo139 (talk) 20:28, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Powerless and Lost in the Echo - singles???

"Lost in the Echo" should be moved to the promotional singles and "Powerless" to the other charted songs section for these reasons:

  • the iTunes release in Japan of Powerless doesn't make it a single. Otherwise, we must add "Wretches and Kings" [2] and "Rolling in the Deep" [3] as singles too (RITD is in the other charted songs section, which is why Powerless must be moved there too, or, both are moved to the promo singles section, along with W&K)
  • Lost in the Echo is actually the same as Lying from you (airplay single), except there's an iTunes release in the UK (while this does, as stated above, also apply to RITD and W&K) and a music video (while this also applies to Not Alone), and they're not listed in the official discography. Either both are singles or promo singles. Move LITE to the promo singles or LFY to the singles.

--Gbuvn (talk) 15:22, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

I don't think we should have a section of promotional singles. All non-common singles which charted ("Lost in the Echo", "Lying from You", "Powerless") should be moved to Other charted songs. If Powerless didn't charted I guess is not necessary to include it on this discography.--Neo139 (talk) 17:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Powerless charted at #40 of UK Rock Chart.--Gbuvn (talk) 12:34, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Come on guys, give some more opinions here. If not I will support the edit with this discussiona and you gotta discuss here before you bring back Powerless. --Gbuvn (talk) 16:15, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

i think we should move powerless to other charted songs at least, and keep LITE with the singles --hosam007 (talk) 16:43, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
I did so. Although LITE isn't a classic single I guess most people consider it a single. But I still wonder why people came up with Powerless as a single when it's exactly the same as Not Alone or Wretches and Kings. So what to do with the Powerless article? Change the infobox to track instead of single?--Gbuvn (talk) 20:12, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
i believe we should edit the infobox in powerless article to "song" cause it's like W&K and RITD. and for LT article we should remove powerless from the infobox and the singles section. is that fine ?? --hosam007 (talk) 16:59, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
I guess? --Gbuvn (talk) 17:58, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Just thought I'd give another opinion on this discussion: I think LITE is a single, as is LFY as far as I can tell. Everything else should go in other charted songs; no need for a promo singles section. Andre666 (talk) 12:02, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Except LFY that would be status quo, right?--Gbuvn (talk) 14:29, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

I'll be gone (vice remix)

The song is a promotional single and was streamed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.194.62.42 (talk) 08:58, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Iridescent at UK Singles Chart

It says #12 but I'm pretty sure that's just made up. Could someone check up the real peak position, I can't find it. Note that Iridescent (song) also has to be edited. --Gbuvn (talk) 18:42, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Checked it and you are right it's just made up, I have changed it here. Abhinav0908 (talk) 19:25, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Hidden 'Soundtracks' section?

While I was re-formatting the table in the Other appearances section I came across this hidden underneath. It is completely unreferenced apart from one song but to me it looks like an extension (expand content below to see the actual table). Not sure what to do with this at all, any thoughts? Fan-made music videos?

Under music videos there are many videos not even from Linkin Park themselves. For example, H! VLTG3 has a "music video" link to some YouTube user called NTRMssion1's fan-made video for the song. Drpdrp97 (talk) 19:12, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

LP Underground albums.

Should the albums by the band released for the fan club, be included as official EPs. Because they are not available anywhere except the band's site. So I guess they should be included in different section as LP Underground albums instead for EP or Demo album. Mike:Golu · [ Confidential message ] 08:45, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Compilations

Refer to Eminem Discography and see the hugely contributed soundtracks can be added as a various artists soundtrack in Compilation section. Mike:Golu · [ Confidential message ] 07:27, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Support split - The "Linkin Park discography" article is over 100 kB in size, and should be split to new articles entitled Linkin Park albums discography and Linkin Park songs discography. --Jax 0677 (talk) 13:30, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Oppose - The idea behind WP:WHENSPLIT is mainly for readability, concentration span, etc. Here, most of the size is because of tons of references for charts peak values. About the 'techninal issues' reason, the 100KB limit is a value from almost 10 years ago. The discography is quite small.--Neo139 (talk) 19:25, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
Oppose - Agree with Neo. The size doesn't make the article unwieldy. It's well-organized and easy to read and navigate through. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 14:14, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Oppose'- I guess there already is a songs discography page. Could be considered.NotNITINChopra · [ Poke ] 07:53, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Update One More Light album sales

Previous source from early July has the figure at 130,000.

After Bennington's death, One More Light gained at least another 50,000 album sales according to https://www.reuters.com/article/us-music-charts-lanadelrey-idUSKBN1AI2P2

So OML should have AT LEAST 180,000 sales (likely more, but I only have the two sources to go by). If someone can get actual updated soundscan sales figures for OML they are undoubtedly higher then when added to this page in early July. (same with the rest of the discography). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.75.35.100 (talk) 17:36, 5 August 2017 (UTC)
