Quality review from WP Biography[edit]

A request was made at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography to review this article against the quality criteria. I currently believe the article to be at C-class and have provided a list of issues below that you may want to look at to take this to the next level. If you can resolve these issues it should easily make B-class and it would be worth listing it for a GA review.

  • Opening paragraph says, "[he] worked as a teacher and headmaster in state schools in various locations around New South Wales until 1961." That implies to a reader that he was a headmaster for much of that time but the article body says he was a headmaster only for his final year. Maybe write "worked as a teacher and later a headmaster in state schools..."
  • Academia and curator career section says, "In 1961, was appointed by the university as a Research and Information Officer in the Department of External Studies." Should that be "he was appointed"?
  • Academia and curator career section says, "Holding the position for 21 years, he oversaw expansion of the facility to better present the history of education in Australia, including the establishment of the college's Historical Resources Centre in 1974, and the relocation to the museum of three historic school buildings from Armidale High School and Dumaresq Public School between 1976 and 1980." That is a very long sentence and I lost the thread of it halfway through. Consider splitting into separate sentences.
  • Academia and curator career section says, "Also in 1972, he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to the U.K. for four weeks to study how museums in the UK contributed to general education." It is normal practice to write "UK" in Wikipedia articles though if there is a compelling argument for Australian usage of "U.K." then the latter version may be valid. In any case the article should be consistent in the form that is chosen.
  • Other work section says, "he joined the Armidale Town Clerk in a successful petition". Is Town Clerk a formal title in this context or just a job role? Armidale town clerk may be more appropriate.
  • The footnotes are confusing and it is hard to work out what most of them refer to. It is normal practice on Wikipedia to refer to one publication per footnote - are the footnotes here each referring to multiple publications? Also, if you are going to refer to a publication in a bibliography or works section, it is usually wise to include the publication year such as <ref>Australian College of Educators (2012).</ref>. If another publication by Australian College of Educators is added later by another editor it will be impossible to tell whether the "ACE" footnotes refer to the first or second publication without a date or other distinguishing reference.

The footnotes issue is the most important point here and the key factor holding this back from B-class. Road Wizard (talk) 09:10, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
