Criticism section[edit]

There were two parts of this article describing criticism of Ms. Jackson. Both of them were copied verbatim from a press release by an activist organization (PEER). The edit history makes this clear. The edits are all from IP 76.114.205.47, which resolves to a physical location in Arlington, Virginia, directly across the Potomac river from Washington, DC, where PEER is located.

It is reasonable to assume that the organization itself copied the information from its press release into this article. The edits were all made within the span of five minutes. The first is adding the section title, the section pastes an entire chunk of text copied from the press release without formatting (apart from the asterisk Firefox copies onto the clipboard for bulleted items), the third adds formatting (replacing asterisks with hyphens), the fourth removes emotionally-charged language and PEER talking points, and the last corrects a typo caused by missing the first character in the block of text that was copied.

This material does not meet the standards for verifiability or impartiality. The source cited does not cite any sources of its own, and the entire content came from an organization that stood to gain by promoting itself and its positions through this article.

Nightrose: I agree with your assessment of the material. The material does not meet the standards for verifiability or impartiality. Consistent with WP policies, I have removed the links to the negative material. WP:TALK "Editors should remove any negative material about living persons that is either unsourced, relies upon sources that do not meet standards specified in Wikipedia:Reliable sources or is a conjectural interpretation of a source." W E Hill (talk) 06:41, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just replaced some PR language with clean, concise prose. Memo to Ms Jackson or staff: please find something else to do besides editing Wikipedia for PR purposes. Tapered (talk) 01:32, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Carlin controversy[edit]

I agree with KDP, this information does not belong here. Instead, there needs to be a new page that covers the EPA and global warming. It would contain rulings, public hearings, and the like. The "Alan Carlin controversy" should also go there. Q Science (talk) 07:38, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I attempted to remove the entire Alan Carlin controversy section, as it has nothing to do with the biography of Lisa Jackson, and in fact doesn't even mention her in connection with the "controversy". Apparently a bot has undone my edits on the grounds that I did not provide an adequate Edit Summary, when in fact I did. See the edit history of the entry page to verify this.

Correction, my edits were not undone by a bot, but by an established user, namely User:AlexWaelde. Apparently, Mrs. Jackson's appearance tonight on "Real Time with Bill Maher" has alerted certain watchers of this page to maintain its current slant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.171.115.175 (talk) 03:14, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with all of the above comments. A new article has created for Alan Carlin. W E Hill (talk) 06:23, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see someone wants to point this article to that one, in spite of these comments.—Arthur Rubin (talk) 09:18, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removing "politician" from the lead[edit]

I don't see how or why Jackson can or should be characterized as a politician, it's inaccurate and somewhat misleading, particularly in the lead.

Agree but shouldn't category be changed too? 174.252.72.86 (talk) 17:23, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

She has never run for office according to this article. She was appointed to be a chief of staff to the governor of NJ, which would have made her a very high level political aide, not a politician. I suppose it could be argued that would have made her a politician, but she never began work on that job, as she was nominated for the EPA post. The definition from Webster's on line doesn't fit her either:

politician -1. a person experienced in the art or science of government; especially : one actively engaged in conducting the business of a government and 2. a person engaged in party politics as a profession b : a person primarily interested in political office for selfish or other narrow usually short-sighted reasons.

Again an argument could be made, but it would be dubious and weak. I would also like to note that the previous administrator of the EPA, Stephen L. Johnson, who in many ways had a similar background as a scientist and an administrator, is not referred to as a politician either. Therefore, I am removing the characterization of "politician" from the lead of her bio here. -KeptSouth (talk) 18:14, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name before marriage?[edit]

What was her name before marriage? Jackson is possible - very common name -but if it was something else page should say it. 174.252.72.86 (talk) 17:40, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Her name is given as Lisa Perez Jackson, married to Kenneth Jackson. Her "maiden name" is clear from that. -- 98.108.198.144 (talk) 21:45, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed in EPA section[edit]

Article needs to be updated for her statements regarding EPA getting involved in climate change regulations. 174.252.80.125 (talk) 17:31, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Neighborhood where Lisa grew up[edit]

The original version of this Wikipedia entry, along with other web articles, erroneously stated that Lisa Jackson, nee Perez, grew up in the "Lower 9th Ward" of New Orleans. She actually grew up in Pontchartrain Park, which although it is in New Orleans' 9th Ward, it is not near the "Lower 9th Ward" of Hurricane Katrina notoriety. I have first hand knowledge because I also grew up in Pontchartrain Park and attended St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School with Lisa. Pontchartrain Park is an upscale, predominately African American suburb, created in the mid 1950's, to meet the demands of post-WWII, upwardly mobile Blacks, for the kind of suburban housing that they were restricted from purchasing in the segregated "white" suburbs. Pontchartrain Park was also devastated by Katrina, due to a different type of flood control failure than the violent breach of the Industrial Canal that destroyed the Lower 9th Ward. However, because of it's relative affluence, it's residents had mostly evacuated prior to the arrival of Katrina. Lisa talks about growing up in Pontchartrain Park in the following opinion posting on the CNN site:
