Hey User:QuietHere, I saw your recent edit and I wanted to ask: if we're going by 2022 albums standards and removing citations for wikilinked albums, can't we remove the citations for, like, almost all of these?
@Project Termina Yes, just never got around to them. There was some editor a while back who cleared out a few of the years but I guess they dropped off after a bit, and these older pages are much smaller than the new ones that it wasn't an immediate concern, but the rules are meant to apply evenly across the whole series. Feel free to go through all of 'em if you get the chance. QuietHere (talk) 21:29, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I was not the one who was reviewing and editing most of the lists, but I did it month by month on some of the larger lists. It is just such a large effort, that I concentrated on getting the larger articles cut down in size a little. There was one editor that was assuming that every listing that has an album link did not require a citation, but I disagreed and restored much of that effort. Many album articles are poorly supported and have little evidence of notability. I tend to look to see if there is a review table, with three or four reviews from well known sources. That is my general rule of thumb for declaring an article to be self-notable and removing the citation from the list. I know there is more that can be used to show an article is self-notable, but I have little interest in opening several citations in each album article and perusing to see if the article is sufficient to support album notability. Thus I just look for a good review table as my time-saver, and move on. Mburrell (talk) 04:00, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your guidance Mburrell, I appreciate it. I saw that you approved all of the January edits I did except for Character (Dark Tranquillity album). For the sake of explanation, I removed that reference because the album appears to meet WP:NALBUM by criterion: "A recording may be notable if... The recording has appeared on any country's national music chart." Emphasis mine. The five charts listed on the album page appear to be the approved album charts for their respective countries on WP:GOODCHARTS, although the French chart is mislabeled on the album page as SNEP rather than Hung Medien.
I was using that standard for notability that we established on the album list pages. I view it that we established a standard for the lists, and if the album article does not qualify per the list requirements, then we include a citation. We can discuss what makes an album notable for list criteria, but in the end we did not discard the album as non-notable, just kept the citation in the list, so I don't really want to dive in and redefine the list criteria.
