Nobel Inflation[edit]

Not to be overly picky, but two of the eight Nobel laureates listed in this article have no significant ties to B.U.

Murray Gell-Mann and Amartya Sen were both nominally visiting professors for a year, but their appointments only involved giving a handful of public lectures and they weren't in residence.

There's really no reason to include more than what's already written about that person. And we certainly shouldn't be stating things that are highly contentious without sources here. Honorary Degrees of Zhang Yimou[edit]

I see one editor has added Zhang Yimou to the list. His only connection with BU is that he will be given an Honorary Degree in May 2009. No others whose only BU connection is that they are Honorary Degree recipients are listed here, although most would likely qualify as being prominant, but few would have any other substantial connection with the University. (Marshall Petain of France received an Honarary Degree from BU in the 1920's, as a example.) I have reverted this one edit on the grounds that the degree has not yet been awarded. However, in general I believe that Honorary Degree recipients ought not to be listed here unless they have some other connection with BU that would lead to their being listed anyway. Comments? Really? Hon. degree can't be listed here? Oh, OK, then please explain to me what are John F. Smith, Jr., Jason Alexander, Marisa Tomei & Nicholas Gage doing here? The list contains people who did not complete any university programs (aka - Dropouts) - Rosie O'Donnell, Paul Reubens & Patti Rothberg just to name a few. I've asked for an Admin to review our sort-of discussions and make suggestions. My point is that even a drop-out is an Alumnus (this has been argued out extensively in the past) and in any case has more connection with the University that most recipients of Honorary Degrees, let alone someone who has not yet received an Honorary Degree. I urge you to look carefully at the list of people here. Almost none of the people who have been awarded Honorary Degrees are included. Only those who also have a direct connection other than the Honorary is listed. Honorary degree alone is simpply not sufficient connection to any university for inclusion in such a list. Notability?[edit]

For a list of "notable" entries there are an awful people here who do not have Wikipedia articles. Some have further listdef such as "Fulbright Scholars" but cats like "Business" looks like its half non-notables. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 23:17, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All redlinked names must either have their own Wikipedia pages, or be referenced to reliable sources. their connection to the university must be clearly established.
