Table Layout[edit]

Hi @BundesBerti:

Rather than just reverting each other, let's talk about why we like our layouts and see if we can come to an agreement.

So I changed the layout from 1 > 2 for a few reasons:

  • To make it consistent with the other big 5 European leagues
  • Resizing the Clubs so that they are easier to read - the need to downsize isn't a massive issue in this article
  • There was a similar discussion on 100 Premier League goals which led to the latter being adopted.
  • Players with only one Bundesliga club don't need their stats displayed as they're already available in their overall stats.
  • Nowrapping the clubs so that a mobile break doesn't confuse the data (though this may be unnecessary due to the use of mw-database.
  • Listing the clubs chronologically rather than by appearance.

Why do you prefer the former layout?

Hi.
I prefer the former layout, because:
  • Columns for Player and Nat.: to make it sortable by surname and nationality, not only by nationality.
  • Downsizing clubs/apps: to make the table not too wide.
  • Listing the clubs by appearance and using stats by players with only one club: to make it sortable to see the rankings for each club. Example Bayern Munich, you can see by sorting: 1. G. Müller 365 goals, 2. Lewandowski 238, 3. Rummenigge 162, 4. T. Müller 138, and so on.
  • It has been the layout since the start of this wiki article in June 2022, so for over 2 years that hasn't bothered anyone.

Hey! Thanks for responding.
  • I'd say that the important sortable columns would be goals, ratio and years but concede that it is more difficult to do this with a combined nationality and name column - but also note that it still sorts it alphabetically within nationality therefore not a substantial difference - whilst providing a more visually appealing table.
  • The table never exceeds a single row regardless of width therefore I don't think that the loss in readability is worth it.
  • The ranking by club is shown immediately in the table below where it lists each clubs' top scorer so I'd say that chronologically makes more sense and other tables don't even have this as a sortable column which I'd also think is sensible.
  • Finally, I've had a look back at List of footballers with 100 or more Premier League goals from June 2020 and seen that you were helping to edit it at a similar time when the changes were made to its format, including an edit to include small text in the Clubs section, which was reverted as it was deemed too difficult to read. Don't get me wrong, I really like the table that you've built and maintained, I just want there to be conformity between the different leagues, and having just created / edited three of the other ones I was hoping to improve the design on this one as well, using the format that was agreed upon on the Premier League page. Hi guys, I stumbled upon your discussion, hope you dont mind me interrupting: In the German version of this list, the column for name is sortable by lastname and still has the national flag in front of the name. I cant seem to find the english equivalent of the template used ({{PersonZelle) but maybe this is helpful for all the different pages mentioned so far. I struggle to see the benefit of sorting by nationality.
