Cliff Barnes or J. R. Ewing?[edit]

Eventually, James decided that his marriage to Michelle wasn't going anywhere, and decided to reconcile with Debra Lynn after Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) told him of the importance of having a son.

My remembrance says it was not Cliff, it was J. R. himself who told James that he was in Florida to see his ex-wife Cally and their son. James got angry about his father but J. R. said he should calm down. He has not talked to her. She has not recognized that he was there because he saw how happy she was with the baby and her new boyfriend. And so he left.

He said analogous to James: "If you give up a son, it will haunt you for a lifetime." As I am German I only know the German words not the English words.

I have no remembrance that Cliff told him of the importance of having a son. Maybe he has, but I remember this conversation with J. R.
