creation

I created this page to free up the main page of the Delta Upsilon Article. I plan to leave the a few of the most famous alumni on the main article page. DUKyleXY 19:29, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I have removed Senator Justin Smith Morrill from the list of members of your fine fraternity. I am on the Board of Directors at the Justin Smith Morrill Homestead. I have also worked for the State of Vermont giving guided tours of the Homestead. I have read the two biographies of Senator Morrill and have consulted with the Strafford, Vermont historical society. There is no evidence that Senator Morrill was ever a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity--or any other. In fact, he never attended any college or university and only had honorary degrees bestowed upon him. terrapin 13:24, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Removal undone. Proof can be found at the following location [1]under the January 2008 issue. As you can see for yourself, Mr. Morrill's membership was honorary and the fraternity has hard evidence of his membership. DUKyleXY (talk) 19:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Date order?

Is there a particular reason this list is in order of initiation date and by last name? It makes it harder for the casual reader to scan. I hate turning simple lists into tables, but if the sort-by-date is that critical, a sortable table is probably the next best option. —C.Fred (talk) 16:47, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Redlink Cleanup

I understand that all of the redlinks looks bad on the list, however these men are notable. I noticed you removed numerous Chairmen and Presidents of Companies as well as other notables. Just because they are not noticeable enough to merit their own WP page, doesn't mean they are not notable in the context of this article. If you are worried about the redlinks, merely un-wikilink them. ThanksDUKyleXY (talk) 04:54, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

In addition to not being notable enough for Wikipedia (read WP:WTAF), they are unreferenced. 67.180.84.52 (talk) 02:14, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
2:1 Tagged for notability. You can't just remove some of these people. Don4of4 (talk) 02:30, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
You can't just throw a notability tag on it and pretend that takes makes it all good. 67.180.84.52 (talk) 05:50, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
These kinds of issues have been discussed before. List of redlinks tend to not to be developed and end up getting linked to people with similar names. There needs to be a source for every name confirming notability, and those without articles should be black, not red. - Stillwaterising (talk) 06:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
I think we need to stop just removing the entire redlink entries without solving the issue here on the discussion page, especially since all the redlinks aren't being removed. I think we should start off by delinking the red names and then work on the nobility of each person. Chris1834 (talk) 10:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
I agree that any kind of wholesale removal of redlinks is inappropriate at this point. Editors should be working on finding sources to support the placement of all persons on the list. Only after continued work shows nothing on the entries should we think about depopulating the list. However, it's too early in the process for that. —C.Fred (talk) 20:30, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

I look forward to seeing who actually cares enough to find citations that show both notability and connections to DU. 67.180.84.52 (talk) 22:10, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Rather than mess with what is already in the main space, I have created a sandbox where I am reformatting and updating the list (with references). You can find it at Talk:List of Delta Upsilon alumni/sandbox. Please feel free to help me out, its gonna take some time as it is! PS. I am basing this on the List of Alpha Phi Alpha brothers which has Featured List status already. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DUKyleXY (talkcontribs) 02:33, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Sandboxing Literature Section

I am done with Sports & Entertainment and am now sandboxing the Literature section in my user sandbox User:Chris1834/Sandbox and will integrate it when I am done. Chris1834 (talk) 04:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

I will not be able to get back to the section I am working on until sometime in July if someone else has the time. I will be on a couple of trips and won't have the time. Chris1834 (talk) 23:01, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Not an orphan

I've removed the orphan tag from the article because, as a list article, there should be fewer inbound links than normal. For any member of the list, it would make more sense for the link in their article to point to Delta Upsilon than to this list. This is also more beneficial to the reader, who likely wants to see information on the fraternity instead of a list of other members.

I checked the links in to other fraternities' member lists, and the count is comparable.

Is there a reason why this should have an orphan tag in light of that context? —C.Fred (talk) 02:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you, and apologize for not catching that before completing my recent change. GoingBatty (talk) 17:22, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Rebuilding / Reformatting List

I'm rebuilding / reformatting the list in the table format prescribed by the fraternities and sororities wikiproject. There were also no references to anyone here, which I'm adding. Below I'm going to keep a running list of anyone for whom RS/NPOV references I cannot find in case someone can salvage them later:

  • Angus S. King (numerous references to DU chapter websites - numerous false positives to a visit by Franklin Roosevelt's granddaughter to a lecture at Bowdoin College led by King that was part of the "Delta Upsilon Lecture Series")
  • James S. Smart (his own bio on Wikipedia says he was a member of Sigma Chi)
