Rethink[edit]

Resolved
 – No consensus for split; WP:AFD already forced merge of minor SG character articles into lists. No consensus at present for SG-1/Atlantis merge.

Not all of the characters that have been put together in this article are the same.

- Lady Aleena @ 11:47, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another thought...
The episode Pegasus Project is just the first crossover between the two series, and more than likely much more to come. Do not differentiate between the series. General Landry and Sergeant Harriman are as much part of Stargate Atlatis as all of the other minor characters, even Dr. Lee crossed over. Rodney McKay is major character in Stargate Atlantis, he is a minor Stargate SG-1 character. So articles should be called Stargate (title) characters. So all of the minor Air Force colonels would go into one article (Simmons, Caldwell, Pendergast), all of the minor Marine colonels would go into another (Makepeace, Sumner, and Everett). Try to group characters as closely related as possible. It would allow for greater categorization. - LA @ 07:41, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1) The question is to have less pages, with less chances to get AfD. If this page becomes too big, then we'll think about separating in categories. For now, I think we don't have enough characters to make those separations worthwile.

2) I'm cataloguing the characters according to the series they regular/recurring characters of. Take into account, too, that many people is still only a SG-1 fan or an Atlantis fan, but not a fan of both. Also, trying to find Atlantis characters into the more populated list of SG-1 characters can be frustrating. While both series are set in the same universe, they also have enough things that made them unique and I think the series categorization is still the better option.

--Andromeda 09:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why on earth would we want to have a plethora of tiny articles on fictional sergeants in Stargate shows? We consolidate minor character articles like this for a reason, and there is overwhelming precedent at WP:AFD for doing so. If this article is split into a bunch of small subarticles, expect that move to be reversed in a matter of days. AFD has already spoken on this matter (SG minor characters, I mean), so this discussion is long since moot.
As for a merge, that should be proposed separately. I would strongly support it, as there is no continuity separation whatsoever between SG-1 and Atlantis characters, and so much overlap as to produce a large number of duplicate entries. But it would need to be its own merge nomination, with merge tags, and done consistently between all of the "List of X characters in Stargate Y" list types, not a passing thought in the middle of another thread. :-)

Peter Grodin[edit]

Resolved
 – No consensus for split; WP:AFD already forced merge of minor SG character articles into these lists.

Should Grodin really be counted as a minor character? I realize that he was only in one season, but he was in quite a few episodes. -- SFH 18:55, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He was in 11 episodes, User:Rodney McKay created a new page for him and removed the redirect, i fixed the page and copied some of the information across as well as expanding the page. He's more then a "minor character" considering he had some pretty important jobs early on, moreso then Seargent Bates. - Count23 12:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he should be a minor character. He was in 11 episodes, but he did not do anything of significance except in his last one. The question was to reduce character pages to prevent AFD, not create more! --Andromeda 13:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, you cannot merge a page without full consent, and since there isnt full consent, taht requires a MERGE vote. Teh Grodin page will be restored until the merge vote passes. - Count23 13:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I can. This issue was raised a long time ago, when we got several AFD. --Andromeda 14:09, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but you cant. You originally made this 6 months ago, because the page was smaller and noone objected, this time, people ARE objecting and that classifies the page as "Controversial" under the WP:Merge guidelines. Sorry, you HAVE to start a merge vote. - Count23 23:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Taking into account the character disappeared from the series in the first season, more than two years ago, this makes no sense. His role was very minor and he doesn't deserve a page of his own. You are creating unnecessary pages and putting all of us under the threat of more AFD, which was the thing we are trying to prevent. And those people are only you and the other, so it's not that controversial. --Andromeda 23:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
yes it is, Controversy. one or more parties disagreeing over the something is a classed as controversial. EvilClown has stepped in and begun the merge vote because of constant page blanking without one. - Count23 23:55, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Colonel Sumner smiling at Teyla.jpg[edit]

 – Fair use tagging done.

Image:Colonel Sumner smiling at Teyla.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Dr. Jennifer Keller[edit]

I believe Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite) deserves her own article, serving vital roles in 5 out of 6 season 4 episodes to date. I was pretty surprised to see her on the supporting cast roll instead of the regular one, given her screen time in relation to other (regular) characters. There is enough information on Jen right now to warrant her own article. Stoney3K 00:55, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. If there are no objections I will split it. Stargate70 00:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Simon[edit]

I think we need to add Simon, and I will do when I have time but if somebody gets a chance before me please go ahead. Million_Moments (talk) 21:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No objections at all. Be bold. – sgeureka t•c 11:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Levine[edit]

This minor character is played by Gerry Durand and has been in four episodes, lastly seen in Adrift. I have been told during a bit of research for the Chuck Campbell article by Chuck himself that Gerry Durand is Joe Flanigan's stand-in, and perhaps for this reason Levine may be an interesting character to add. Anyone have any thoughts/objections? Fififolle (talk) 11:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Four episodes sound enough for him to be covered here, but the character's name doesn't ring a bell. Can't hurt to add him, also I suggest you should not add an image per WP:NFC. – sgeureka t•c 11:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crossover Characters[edit]

Should we provide links to the SG-1 list of characters for some of the crossover characters such as Richard Woolsey and Bill Lee, Woolsey has probably appeared in as many episodes as SG-1 and he has Atlantis and I am not sure how to resolve the issue. People who have only watched Atlantis will not know to look for him in the SG-1 link unless we tell them. Million_Moments (talk) 18:16, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking about this as well when I was recently watching Prometheus Unbound where Dr. Novak of Atlantis appeared. Since Woolsey and Dr. Lee still have their regular home on Earth, I'd leave them in the SG-1 article. Then I suggest to write a short section here similar to what the main characters have, with a {{main|List of Tau'ri characters in Stargate SG-1#Richard Woolsey}} template at the top. Who knows what organization problems we run into when the third canon Stargate series starts... – sgeureka t•c 19:06, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, Jennifer Keller is "just" a recurring character, and in my attempt to merge all non-main SG character articles that don't demonstrate/establish notability as outlined in Wikipedia:Notability, I propose to merge her article here. Of course I realize that she's still a newbie character and that her article can grow, but the expansion should not be just plot (see WP:NOT#PLOT). On the other hand, I see no need to hurry with a merge, but her article should still either be expanded with (non-trivial) casting information, development from a producer's standpoint, and general reception (totalling to at least two solid paragraphs); or be merged as recommended per WP:FICT. I think we can reach consensus by the end of Season 4, and if a merge takes place, there is no reason to not de-merged her if someone wants to give her article encyclopedic treatment later on. Opinions? – sgeureka t•c 15:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Million_Moments (talk) 12:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep the seperate. Jennifer Keller appers if not officially, at least in function to be a main character. The new atlantis episode "outbreak" revealed a great deal about her character. For her article to be able to grow it must remain seperate, which is why I split it. Stargate70 (talk) 02:23, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, the main character pages are not kept because they are for main characters, but because they have a reasonable chance to meet Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) easily (and I'd say even Aiden Ford and Jonas Quinn don't really pass this muster). Plot is completely unimportant (and all but one Stargate character article have too much of it anyway), sales figures, critical and popular reception, development, cultural impact, and merchandise is what matters. The burden of proof to present this information is on the people wishing to keep the article. As I said above, I am not going to merge until the season is over; information can be added even when merged, and a de-merge is possible any time. – sgeureka t•c 10:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Per http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/02/robert_picardo_joins_iatlantisi_.shtml, it is possible that Jewel will become a main character in Season 5. The merger of her character will be held off until I/we know more. (It is current convention to give every main character of SG-1 and Atlantis his/her own article, so I won't be a dick and force issues. :-)) – sgeureka t•c 19:01, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Per today's entry in JM's blog, I withdraw the merge proposal, as my "she's is only a recurring character" rationale no longer applies for Season 5. If someone else wants to start a merge proposal in a different light, go ahead. – sgeureka t•c 00:20, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger of Radek Zelenka[edit]

Before I say anything: Zelenka is my favorite SGA character, so this merge proposal obviously doesn't come lightly. But from the viewpoint of a wikipedian, his article isn't that great, as it consists of plot (see WP:NOT#PLOT) and WP:INTERESTING but unsourced and not really encyclopedic translations (unencyclopedic in the sense that a list like this would have no place if the article was improved to Good Article standards, which is what we should be striving for). And Zelenka, despite being one of the most recurring characters, is not a main character where Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) and common practise would extend more curtesy. Therefore, I propose a trim&merger of the "Appearances" section, and a transwiki (and link there) of the "Translations" section. As there is really no need to hurry with a merge because I do not want to discourage encyclopedic treatment (I may even help out with this article down the line for casting information, development from a producer's standpoint, and general reception), I'd certainly wait for consensus until the end of Season 4. Note that if a merge takes place, Zelenka can easily be de-merged if someone wants to give his article the necessary attention. Opinions? (Please avoid WP:ILIKEIT or WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS arguments if possible.) – sgeureka t•c 15:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do think it needs attention, and I think there is a enough information out there to make it well researched and referenced articles. Maybe get WikiProject Stargate to make it part of their improvement drive? Million_Moments (talk) 12:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with merge. Zelenka is a significant recurring character, that cannot be say about the others in the list. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 11:23, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just notice your reply now because you removed the merge tag, which I have restored. Prove his notability through adding third-party sources (I couldn't find anything but trivial sentences) or significant amounts of non-independant real-world information. Zelenka should not be given a blanket permission like the main characters, who in fact shouldn't have a blanket permission either (but it is a lot easier to establish their actual notability; just google the announcements for Picardo joining the cast). – sgeureka t•c 14:09, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I showed how it's done properly, see Radek Zelenka, but I really included everything I could find, and it's not terribly much. The "Appearances" section can be further trimmed, and I am actually thinking to turn it into a short "Role in Stargate Atlantis" section because Zelenka has no real arc, and the rest seems like indiscriminate information. The merge is thus off the table.sgeureka t•c 22:09, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger of Evan Lorne[edit]

This merge proposal mirrors my merge proposal for Zelenka (see above), although I'd now state that Lorne is not a favorite of mine but that I realize that he has got some fandom movement of his own. The "Background Information" section is a good start, and if someone can improve it to have at least two solid paragraphs for sourced casting information, development from a producer's standpoint, and general reception, then this merge proposal is pretty much off the table. Otherwise, as Lorne is a substantial recurring character, there is really no need to hurry with a merge and I'd certainly wait for consensus until the end of Season 4. Note that if a merge takes place, Lorne can easily be de-merged if someone wants to give his article the necessary attention. Opinions? (Please avoid WP:ILIKEIT or WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS arguments if possible.) – sgeureka t•c 15:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs images of all of the characters...[edit]

Since the characters of Stargate Atlantis do not normally wear "street clothes" and are primarily shown in very specific costuming, the images of these live actors in character are very important to this list. The uniforms the characters wear are of varying color combinations which denote certain aspects of the characters' occupations within the series. To show a military character in plain clothes is to do a great injustice to the role. The same goes for the various other characters in their specific costuming. Also the images of the characters would show the characters within the environment of the series. - LA @ 08:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Much as I would love to agree with you *mourns loss of Cole image* please read the section headed 'Non-free image use in list articles' on this page - Wikipedia:Non-free content It does clearly say that every character in the list should not be illustrated *cries* and thus we must abide by Wikipedia guidelines and stick to perhaps the more important characters. "It is discovered the President of DMT, Henry Wallace, was responsible and kidnapped them because he needed help in saving her daughter’s life, by shutting down experimental nanites in her system that are killing her, rather than curing her leukemia. When they attempted to escape, they were recaptured. Wallace injected her with nanites to get the siblings to work on shutting down the nanites."

From Jeannie Miller. I have no idea how to put that into English, nor what it's supposed to be saying - in particular, who is "her", and whose daughter is referenced? Anyone have any suggestions? - Nyshano (talk) 18:11, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
