Christian[edit]

What does this mean: "von Mises (Christian)"? I thought the von Mises were Jewish. If they are Christian, why have them here at all? Similarly, "Lukács (later Christianism)", "Wittgenstein of Vienna (Christian)" Did they convert? Whatever, we should explain the annotation. Thanks, -Willmcw 02:37, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I could not find a verification on the internet and have struck him from the Dutch list. Robert Prummel (talk) 01:48, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Likewis on the German list - no refs. I've left name there for now but removed redlinks etc. Plutonium27 (talk) 19:18, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of problems[edit]

The list that was used by serious sources such as Guy Stair Sainty has several faults. Is a family descending fom a Jewish man that converted to christianity in 1600 part of the "European Jewish nobility"? Jewish descent is passed through the line of the mother and her female forebearers. Many of the names on the list are correct. Some of them are dubious. Others are mistaken such as Masséna, some. like Napoleon III are plain nonsense. Gossip and machinations by 19th. century antisemitics that wanted to proof that "the Jews were infiltrating everywhere" seem to have left a disturbing pattern of falsifications! Caveat! Quite a few names on this list are extremely dubious, and a good half at least without source or references, no Google info found etc. It would not surprise me that the temptation to add oneself or one's family to this list - and then dropping a hint to one's new amour to check it out - would be in some cases quite overwhelming. Anyway, as a stopgap, I've edited a few - removed redlinks and NN individuals, Russian 'Orders' that cannot be referenced or info found on, etc. Anyway, my lot should rightfully be in there as the Hereditary Ancient and Venerable Barons of Bessarabia, Big Kahunim of All Bukovin Bogs and Backroads, and (latterly the rightful inter-war inheritors of the esteemed and valuable title of the) Big Bastards of Bromley-by-Bow's Bookies and Bars. But apparently Zaydeh, Uncle Bernie and Uncle Maurice went and lost the deed (fight) for that one somewhere between Leman Street and Shadwell Station. I wrote to the Queen about a possible restoration of the title and privileges but all i got was some know-nothing Buck House goy writing back saying ya lost, the Maltese boys earned the banners fair and square, will you ever stop kvetching.
