Statistics of national security cases[edit]

An editor of this page has recently created a section titled "Statistics" with classifications for types of offences, and summary data. I think that the value of such a section needs to be discussed, for several reasons.

First, there is the question of whether the display of such statistics in the article is warranted at all. Even if it may not be a violation of no original research, it does seem to go beyond the purpose of a list article, at least in this particular case.

Second, a relevant Wikipedia page suggests the use of tree lists for family trees or in biological taxonomy. Those cases involve trees that are (essentially) static. The present list is not, so that a potentially large burden of future, and possibly error-prone, editing is being created with maintenance of such a section.

Third, while I do not pretend to know what information a "typical" reader may look for in this article, I think it is much more likely that they will seek information on individual cases (possibly of groups such as the Hong Kong 47, but they are to be treated as a single case for many purposes). Pulling together cases in a statistic does not serve such readers well, and may even be a distraction in an already long and possibly still growing article.--CRau080 (talk) 20:52, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
